CRNE Oct. 5, 2011

Published

Anybody who will be taking the CRNE on October 5, 2011, please post your comments and suggestions here like making a study group, sharing notes, meeting at the library or anything that will help the examinees pass the examination. Thanks!

Congratulations to all of you who have passed! It must be such a relief! I am still waiting for my results.. =( Any word yet from anyone in Alberta?

For those who got their results, did it come in a big brown envelope? Were there alot of papers inside?

Also, thank you for those who gave out the passing mark of 114. I am just wondering what it was out of.

Hi there,

I failed my first try in June 2011 and the envelope came in small white envelope with three papers in it; 1. the paper that states that you are unsuccesful 2. the paper that states how to request for rescore and 3. is an application to write the exam. So it wouldn't be that bulky and not a brown envelope.

I passed the second try in Oct. 2011 and the evelope is the same; small white envelope with 2 papers in it: 1. the letter that states you have are succesful... 2. the paper to register for your license.

Hope you'll have your letter soon. I definitely knows how it feels to be waiting.

it's funny......The due day for applying the next CRNE (Feb, 2012) was Nov 4......

WELL, I saw CARNA website it says deadline was nov 4 but CNO WEBSITE says it is nov 21 and manitoba says it is december 2...

I will do some things differently now: I already signed up for Toronto School of Health RN prep course, will download those prep infor for RN exam from FreshNurse website, and going to study again and again for 6 hours per day with ZERO distractions. Well, Something you have give up right??? whatever it takes to pass it.

** For those who passed, DO you studied alone or with a group of two/three people? Is it helpful to study as a group?

** And also, is the exam harder in June? Thanks

Hello,

I failed my first attempt last June 2011 but I knew I wasn't prepared enough to write that exam because I had a lot of distractions for the whole month of May (and I wasn't discipline enough to actually say NO). I only took the U of T prep course for two days about $350. It helped a lot where my weakness was but I felt like it was not enough. Mind you, I went into the prep course without reviewing anything yet because it was the first weekend of May.

When I got my failed letter, I cried for a whole week (seriously!) and I had to get up and study again. What I did differently from the last time was that:

-I studied for 2 months (August to September) about 4-6 hours a day. I take mini-breaks in between.

-I started with the POTTER & PERRY Ch. 1 to 25 (because that is the fundamental of nursing)

-I made sure I read the CNA COMPETENCIES everyday

-I studied the MOSBY along with my MED-SURGICAL book & MATERNAL-CHILD book

-I enrolled in the Toronto School of Health and it helped me alot in practicing multiple choice questions and answering psychosocial stuff (forewarn: there are grammatical errors and spelling in their test but you have to look past that and learn the strategy in dissecting what the question is and what is the BEST answer). This prep course helped me organized in studying for the medical surgical. Also, this was highly recommended by my classmates when they took it last May and they all pass.

-I did alot of practic questions: CNA prep (I have the 2007 too; you can borrow old prep guides in library), CNA readiness online (which I did one week before the exam to assess what other areas I need to review), Lippincott, Mosby and the practice test online by the Toronto School of Health.

-Also, understand the RATIONALES of each answer especially in the CNA prep guide. I read each rationale and if I have the book mentioned as the source I go find that page and re-read the topic again.

-I did not study the day before and I had gummies and water during the exam as well.

-I studied by myself but really had to discipline myself to study harder the second time.

-Always remember: SAFETY first, ABC, ASSESS ASSESS ASSESS before implementing or acting on doing something.

I know how you feel but do not give up, you worked so hard to get your degree, you just have to work a little bit more to get to be where you wanted to be! Hope this helps a little. Good luck.

WELL, I saw CARNA website it says deadline was nov 4 but CNO WEBSITE says it is nov 21 and manitoba says it is december 2...

Every province sets its own deadline based on their prediction of the number of applications they expect to process and whatever else their registrar's office has going on. Remember, The CRNE is a national exam administered by the individual colleges of nursing.

did anyone from Timmins, Ontario got the result?

Hi,i gave exam this October, unfortunately i failed, but the saddest thing is i fail by just 1mark i got 113,passing score is 114,i felt very sad,i am in depression and agony.i applied for hand scoring i don't have any hop in it,but still to just satisfy my self, please pry for me.My biggest mistake was time i could not mange time,i felt exam was easy, but last 30 questions i dint answered.I feel very bad for it,

Hi did you get your result?what is it?

Don't be discouraged for those who didn't make it. Just keep moving forward! You still have chances-keep that in mind.

As an International Nurse, I find it hard because I'm working at the same time studying for the october exam so time management is important. I wrote it for the first time and passed the exam and it was such a relief.

I don't know if these tips will work for everyone but my style is i keep on answering all the practice questions, I never stopped until I got 75%. I started reviewing last August: I read Mosby's comprehensive review then last September I started answering all the prep guides I had including lippincott, mosby and the CNA's. Prioritization (ASSESSMENT!!!!!) is important in answering the questions (Remember the ABC and Safety), always encircle those words such as LEAST, EXCEPT and BEST etc because the exam will definitely trick you. I have a friend who sits for 18 hours answering the mosby's 1000 questions--- i can't do that honestly. You also need some break.

I noticed that the Canadian exam is more into critical thinking than the NCLEX and my nursing exam back home as it's more into interventions and management. It actually came to the point that while reading the exam I was like "HUH?".

Consider attending review sessions, I study at home and during my off I go to the library so I can concentrate more. Seek advices from the International Nursing Associations from your province some of them organizes review sessions.

I haven't finished reading Lippincott's and it's confusing when you read mosby's afterwards. I suggest not to practice more in answering NCLEX questions as it may confused you with their professional competencies.

Focus and pray! All of you deserve to pass this exam. Just keep the positive thinking. Don't give up! I will pray for you!

hi Jai jagadheesh

Its is easy to say Dont worry.. but my advice is please dont get depressed.. I wrote Crne last feb and failed for 2 marks...it was of course depressing but later on when I analysed my self I found that I did the exam without much preparation and I got strength from the thought that as an IEN without preparation if I can score near pass mark...of course I can do better with little more effort..and I did that in second time .. I PASSED...So believe in yourself.. you can do it....

Hi,

I was just wondering about registration for your license. If I register before December 2011 will I be registered for 2012 or am I going to have to register again in 2012 and pay the fee again?

Yes you will pay twice to register. When I wrote the Oct 2010 exam, I paid in November and then again less than 3 weeks later for the 2011 practice year. There's really no getting around that.
