as an ien, i was not familiar with canadian nursing system and therefore i did not take any risk. i reviewed mosby's comprehensive guide 2 times and cd ( 1000 questions ) one time. of course prep guide too.
i studied 8 hours a day 7 days a week, for three months. did not attend any courses, as they were not available where i stay. i did review any nclex book came across me, kaplan test strategy and prayed a lot. check the nearest university or college library for various books.
i am thankful to god that i passed at first attempt and my advice to those failed is that it's not you lack knowledge but needs more practice. keep on practice new questions and read as much as possible.
please make sure you do practice with the cd's available with the books, as interactive study method is so powerful
cheers
This is my personal opinion. I strongly suggest people to read and memorize the important points from "Mosby's Canadian Comprehensive Review Of Nursing" book. Once you go past the first three chapters and go into the med surg part, you will know why (for people who took CRNE before.)Nursing intervention part can be too much, but it does not mean that we have to memorize all that. However, a few points from there are very good. For me, I could not have felt "it was not too hard exam" with the first book, if I didn't have studied that book. I really liked it.
I also did "Mosby's prep guide for the Canadian RN exam" as well. The scores were totally different before I reviewed "Mosby's Canadian Comprehensive Review Of Nursing" and after that because I could understand why rather than memorizing the rationale at the back. I do agree that "Mosby's Canadian Comprehensive Review Of Nursing" has one part that is unnecessary for CRNE which is anatomy and physiology. I, mysef, skipped that part including all the questions related to those, and focused on nursing part.
There is no harm to study more anyways...If twice is too much (I went over that book twice), at least once, (but please make notes with what you think is important while you are going through that book) I recommend going through that book...because I really got advantage from both Mosby books. Plus, not only for the exam, I feel like I am more knowlegeable in general than before.
in addition to all the "study tips" mentioned, i strongly suggest that you read and understand the rationales to the questions, even your answer is right, try to read why all the other options were wrong... it helped me a lot... :nuke:
im starting to fill out the forms for initial registration... do we also send the continuing competence forms??? what else do we need to send?
i just want to make sure i send all the documents needed...:uhoh21:
I am an American nurse with 31 years of practice under my belt. I take tests well, but if I decided to Practice nursing in Canada, I would have gone to the University where I was living and ask for a tutor. The tutor could do an assessment of my nursing knowledge and concentrate on my weak areas such as community resources. A review course is not going to give you this type of information and an an assessment of what I need to study. In a foreign country there are issues that are second nature to the home grown nurses, that I would not have any insight and may not be covered in the review book since the review is gear for nurses who attended school in Canada.
Congratulations! Can I ask you where did you find the CNA previous prepguide? Thanks.Congratulations for passing the CRNE!! Can I ask you where did you get the questions from? It would be of great help to me.
Hi Life03,
I reviewed all the questions from Mosby's comprehensive review and did 1000 questions on the CD.I borrowed CRNE preguide 3rd & 4th edition from the library. My friend gave me Mosby's prepguide that is a good book to practice crne exam. I studied the test taking strategies from the Kaplan NCLEX-RN book that has 2 practice test with 360 exam style questions(any edition is fine).I reviwed comprehensive review for NCLEX RN by MARY ANN HOGAN 2008. it has 5600 questions and lots of pshycosocial questions. In fact there is not much book to practice crne exam but there are lots of books to practice NCLEX-RN. You dont need to go deep into the NCLEX books but it will give you an idea of how you can approach a question and select an answer. You just go to your library ask search for books if they dont have the librarys have a system that they can borrow book for you from the other librarys. be confident and study well. God bless you. If you have any doubt please feel free to ask. Good luck.

Congratulations rcporras!
This was my first attempt, i scored 140. Now i am planning to write my exam in Feb.
I also took 10 day review classes from nursing education. I paid 650 can for it. I was helpful though, but they didn't touch the psychosocial and community nursing.
Now i am thinking to take any review course atleast for 1 month. Can you please tell me from where did you take your review classes.
Thanks.
