COVID-19: Ivermectin

Anyone hear of this med?  It is anti-parasitic and has tremendous ability to knock out COVID 19, too.

Not the same things.  Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is the antimalarial medication that had been touted by Mr. Trump.  Chloroquine phosphate is the aquarium cleaner.

What I am saying is people bought the Fish tank one and took it and got very sick , even died. People are stupid!

We have transitioned to PO ivermectin tablets for human scabies treatment as our protocol rather than permethrin topical cream in jail. Ivermectin is used for human treatment already...but Im guessing its not the veterinary formulation

I have used Ivermectin many times on coyotes with mange (scabies).  One dose every week for 4 weeks.  It works like a charm.  I would like to say the initial bath with permethrin is as easy, but it’s not.  We give the bath to give some more immediate relief since the Ivermectin does not work immediately. I am a RN and a wildlife rehabber.

I use Ivermectin as an antiparasitic for horses annually. It's a paste to remove worms and bots and anyone can pick it up at tractor supply or the like type store. Not vet needed. I remember last Spring I went to pick some up for my equines and the shelves had warning signs that it was not a covid-19 approved treatment. 

Shocked. Shelves were empty.

That’s a long list of studies in your link. Can you pick out the top three or five studies that in your opinion offers the best evidence for the claim that Ivermectin is an effective treatment for Covid-19? I looked through a couple of them and couldn’t find it. By the way, some of those studies have p values of 0.50 or even 1 (!) which isn’t great. 


The pharmaceutical company that manufactures Ivermectin clearly doesn’t appear to think that it should be used to treat Covid. What, if any, conclusion can we draw from that?

Here’s an article that discusses the difficulties of achieving the very high plasma levels of Ivermectin in vivo that where found to have antiviral properties in vitro. (Pay attention the numbers presented on page 2).

Yes because Merck is making a new drug for Covid treatment. They lost the patient to ivermectin in the 90s, so of course they want the new drug that is for Covid to be paid off from all money spent on research.

This comment doesn't answer the question about which studies demonstrated effective treatment of covid with the drug.

Very little, if any, of these are controlled studies in real peer-reviewed journals (as opposed to the vast number of "preprints" and predatory jouornals listed).

I just spent some time explaining some of this, in a different context, to somebody taking a nursing research course. The paper she was critiquing was allegedly related to a real clinical issue in nursing....but it was in a predatory journal (which see: https://mdanderson.libanswers.com/faq/206446) and listed as one of its "reviewers" a person who was a member of a trade group promulgating tech in grades K-12 in public schools. Nothing whatsoever to do c nursing. Bogus, bogus, bogus.

I've had Ivermectin to treat Scabies. I had no side-effects from it.

Interestingly, my husband wasn't contaminated by me however my dermatologist wanted him to have a preventive dose, then changed her mind when she found he was on methotrexate  and mabthera for rheumatoid arthritis, so obviously some worries in the immunocompromised. 

Apparently you need such high doses to be effective against Covid, far higher than is used to treat Scabies, that we just don't know if such doses are safe in humans.  WHO is suggesting use in clinical trial situations only:

I would personally never order a prescription medicine off the internet. You don't know what you're getting and if a drug isn't freely available, it's for a reason.
