Countdown to May COT...

Published

May COT is quickly approaching. I know of only 3 of us here who are in. Who else is going?

I still haven't commissioned, should be soon obviously.

I can't get on base to get all my uniforms, but I have a friend who can take me to do it. Does everyone have their stuff?

As I organize to close up my house for my renter, I am stressing about it getting moved before I leave for COT. I can't get to TMO before my orders.... kind of freaking out about that. I know I can have someone else do it for me, but it would have to be a friend, as I have no family here.

So many questions and lists in my head!

I'm out running to make sure I can keep up once I get there; it's a great stress killer.

Sounds like driving would be the best option for you. It may cost you more for gas and hotel rooms, but you'd save on all those plane tickets fares! Then you wouldn't have to fly back and then drive to your duty station. I'm glad you got your orders. I know that's a relief. Good luck with moving!

My military SNAFU involved my DD214 (from 1980). Over the years it had gotten tattered and torn (I only had one) so since I live in IL now and hubby lives in St Louis, I head on down to visit him and think....oh yearh, I'll stop by and get a new DD214.

Well, there was this fire in St Louis sometime between 1980 and now and poof - there go my records. So glad I had at least a tattered and torn copy.

Lol - these things happen.

Good luck to all of you!

I'm just wondering for those that went to COT...how is the signal for AT&T 3G devices? I'm bringing my Iphone with me, and it would suck if I get bad reception at the dorms.

Perfect. I used my iPhone the whole time. TAKE IT - anyone who has a cell phone, take it, because it's truly your only reliable communication while you're down there. And you can make all the calls you want after class in your room.

I think people worry too much about 3G connections thanks to all those stupid Verizon commercials. :) I've had my iPhone all over the country since I got it and the only place I ever have a problem is occasionally when I'm by a military base or an airport - it'll drop the signal once or twice, which makes sense. I know it's not perfect but I still blame that commercial with the map over the dude's head.... :)

another question...

i was able to go on base with just my AD orders and commissioning paper...and was able to buy things i needed at the military uniform/memorabilia store. when i went to the commissary, i was told i couldn't shop there. my AD status is stated to begin on or after May 17. will i be able to shop at the commissary on or after that date or will i just have to wait until May 24 rolls around?

hello everyone! I am not leaving in May. I am leaving in Aug. I am glad to hear that all of you all are having the same problems as I am having. I am freaking out that I cant do all of my push ups. I have no problem with the run or the sit ups. I have heard the 1st week of COT is horrible. I live in Arkansas and will be driving to Maxwell then I will be stationed in San Antoino. For anyone that is stationed at lackland....is that where I will be? I am a ICU nurse. I thought they had moved all the inpatient stuff to Brooks. I was just trying to look for places to live at prior to me leaving for COT.

Brooke Army Medical Center will soon be the only inpatient site, but you'll still be technically assigned to Lackland Air Force Base/Joint Base San Antonio. I'm an RN at Wilford Hall, and our inpatient unit is moving by September of next year (supposedly).

First week of COT - it's not quite that bad, but it is very disorganized and you'll be very exhausted.

You don't have to max out the PT test, just pass the thing. 75's passing and that's all you need for COT - and the rest of the USAF, really.

I think my requirement is like 31 push ups for my age (28). Which I can only do like 5. Yes I know that is sad. Would you agree that the almo heights area is a good place to look for housing? Or where?

I think that's to max it out. If pushups are your nemesis (and I'm with you, believe me), pass the minimum in that category, and then once you get to here you have six months to improve.

I pm'd you with some housing help if you want it and sent you my home email.
