Constanzi's Solution

Nurses General Nursing

Published

New admit last night to my medicare unit...came from the hospital with an order for "Constanzi's Solution" 30cc qid.

I've been having a heck of a time finding out what this is.. by the time I got her, the pharmacy was closed (meds were ordered befoe she got to us, andthe pharm. did send the solution) I looked in my Nursing Drug handbook, PDR and today, a Google ™ search turned up NOTHING except referring me to a harpist and other things that don't pertain.

Does anyone have any information??

Thanks a bunch!

Ok i found this.

Costanzi's Solution - 15 ml which contains: Fluocinolone acetonide 0.01%, Tetracycline Susp. 125 mg/5ml, nystatin susp. 100,000U/ml, Diphenhydramine Elixer 12.5mg/5ml

Seems to be some sort of oral wash for oral hygiene and care. Is there a hx of CA?

This is odd to me.

I don't understand why you've asked everyone --from the pharmacist to co-workers to strangers on a buletin board-- instead of calling the ordering MD. Obviously, that is the one person who could have answered your question, and provided an alternate order if it was needed.

Did the patient ever get the medication?

Snark snark snark

Pt came aftr 5 PM for some reason that only God knows, Austin, TX shuts down at 5PM. Meds were preordered, and had been delivered from pharmacy. PHARMACY FILLED THE ORDER- obviously THEY KNOW what it is. Checked Drug book and PDR. Pharmacy was CLOSED.

Dr who wrote order was NOT ON CALL. I got home at 0230 (supposed to be home by midnight) and immediatly did a Google search, and came up with no information. I thought someone on Allnurses might know, and that is why I posted my question.

I thought this BB was all about sharing info and helping nurses-- at least it's been that way for the 3 years I've been a participant.

guess I was wrong..it's only for those who already know everything

Joy,

Actually, Jemb gave the best answer and there was nothing "snarky" about it.

So that MD was not on duty...whomever was on call SHOULD know what the MD ordered...and if they don't, they will call the MD. And maybe next time, s/he will write an understandable order.

And , no, we don't know everything...but we should working together to pinpoint the problem (an inappropriate order) and fixing it (remind the MD that the drug is not standard and to be clearer in the ordering practice).
