hey hey hey guys, i am a newly local board passer which means that i jus gained the title R.N I started processing iN CA for nclex but den i heard the news that i need to go there to get an SSS which of course i cannot because i only have a tourist visa...so i cancelled in my CA though i have not received elligibility yet so i decided to transfer to vermont..so guys how is it??do you really get a job there??wat about all these agency stuff??are they really of help??do dey really get u a job there??

Please go to the International Forum and have a good read, there is much that you need to be aware of. including the fact that there are no visas available and you are looking at about a five year wait for a chance at a green card. Does not matter who employs you, they have nothing to do with visa issuance.

And even if you come to the US, you do not get the SSN# until you actually have been thru the immigration process and have a visa that will permit you to work.

And we ask that you use proper English as that is going to be needed by you to be able to pass the required English exams for immigration. Best place to practice is here.

Also suggest that you take the time to do some reading on the International foru, specifically the Primer at the top of that page for information that you truly need to be aware of, and also threads about the retrogression that you are directly affected by.

my mother knows sum1 hu had a tourist visa she also processed in CA but she just took an ordinary job just to get an employer and to get a social security but everything worked out fine anyway...but i really dont know its too risky i dont know the real situation for one i am here in the phils i can only hear stories different stories which can be mis leading sometimes, i was mislead already bec i processed in CA, Thinking that my tourist visa can do me a favor in fact no...it cant do me a favor d only favor it can do me is i can step in the united states if worse comes to worse..i can wait there for six months come back home go back aagain and stay for 6mos til such time dat immigration visa is completed...

Sorry, but this can no longer be done as there are no visas to adjust to.

And the wait for you is going to be years, not months. Again, please take the time to do some reading on the International Forum for information that you need to have.

And please stick to the topic that is being discussed here.

Hey guys i have not been hired not because of my English, infact i had 7.0 in IELTS, but because i dont have any working experience in U.S. Also i was out of bed side since my baby which is almost 3 years...so i hope that explains.

Since you have taken and passed the NCLEX exam and have a license, next thing that can be recommended for you is to take a refresher course thru a community college, this will also give you contacts with hospitals in the area. That will assist you in getting hired, but also remember that depending on where you are in CA, certain areas have new grad programs only several times per year.

Moving this thread to the International Forum since it is more specific to being a foreign nurse rather than having specifics dealing with working in CA.

Thanks for your understanding on this.

SUZANE.=>, i have a question...i understand about the retrogression issue, no offense to this but to be honest is there discrimination in selecting nurses??although i know already numerous filipinos work there so naturally i guess there is no discrimination in selecting nurses, i use to work in a call center, i was a technical support agent for tracfone and net 10, i had a customer who told me that filipinos are the best ICU nurses, im not showing off or anything by the way please forgive if i cant type in capital letters my keyboard is busted so sometimes caps lock works sometimes it doesnt anyway is there discrimination in selecting nurses???

sUZANNE, i attended my oath taking, its actually not 45percent and as stated by one of the board of nurses in the phils. she stated it herself, i forgot the exact percentage but only 41percent passed the local board in the phils..in cebu out of 5 thousand something only 3 thousand something pass(i forgot exactly how many) she also stated that based on our records those filipinos who took the NCLEX more percentage of filipinos passed thats nation wide in our country that was part of her speech during our oath taking in redemptorist parish church

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are asking here? You ask if there is discrimination, then say there is not, then ask again if there is...?

PS

just because some random caller makes a personal statement about filipino nurses, does NOT make it true... If that were the case, I'm sure many people have numerous positive and negative opinions about filipino nurses (and non-filipino nurses for that matter), but they are just that-- OPINIONS-- and hold NO global truth.

One more thing, its not the lack of capitols that make your posts difficult to read, but rather the absence of punctuation...

Why should it be discrimination, surely it could be argued discrimination if hiring foreign nurses before USC nurses. Could also be argued that the Philippines have discrimination as they will not let a person who is not a Philippine citizen sit the local boards if they trained in the Philippines.

Nurses from all over the world want the chance to travel and or live in other countries, why should some countries get better treatment than others? You will find that most countries will have some limit on how many immigrants they will accept from a country, this helps with the diversity but also ensures that it is fair all around and also looking after their own citizens.

Sliverdragon, I believe your last statement is right on. Many areas of the US are saturated with nurses and because of this, US educated new grads are having difficulties finding jobs. I live in an area that is heavliy populated with filipino nurses and we value their expertise, experience and education. However, I do not feel it is discrimination when the government will no longer allow foreign educated nurses to vie for jobs here especially when there are not even enough for those who are US educated.

...filipinos are the best ICU nurses...

Oh that's just silly. There are excellent nurses from every country and terrible nurses from every country. National heritage has nothing to do with being an excellent nurse. Interestingly, I've come across this attitude before from a couple of filipinos. I wonder where it comes from.

I don't believe there is a discrimination in limiting the number of nurses or any jobs on demand in any country particularly in the US. every country has to find ways to control the number of foreign nurses they will allow in order for their own student to have a job, not to mention the economic impact it will have on their immigration.

There are also excellent nurses in every country as well as not too competent i might say... I think we should have an open mind about the global demand for nurses..not because we could'nt find an easy way to have a decent job in other counrty does'nt mean that they are discriminating in selecting foreign workers.everyone has to go through process.. if you get lucky be thankful. if it takes ages, be patient..

In fairness, filipino nurses are in demand and best regarded for their skills and expertise...Im also a filipino nurse working abroad, but we should also acknowledge that we are not the only country to supply nurses abroad. We should be proud of what we can do and give as a nurse and not brag of how good we are offending other nationalities...:wink2::wink2:

I truly don't understand why Filipino nurses constantly brag what great nurses they are. Many nurses from many countries including those that are born and bred in the United States have excellent skills. And skills are not the only feature employers look for. There is also the way you fit into an organization, teamwork etc...that may be equally important. When you attempt to assimilate into another culture I don't think it comes over well by telling those you are attempting to integrate with that you are better than them. I have seen firsthand how difficult it is to become a nurse in the US. The number of spots to obtain an education are somewhat limited. The US would not be recruiting as they have in the past if they were able to graduate enough of their own. And no, I am not an American citizen but a very thankful person to be here in the US hoping to someday get a green card and eventual citizenship.
