Confused and frustrated!

Hi,

I am a nurse in bayarea who completed all licensing exams, have work permit..but still doesnt have a job. To be honest, i am totally frustrated. I tried calling many employers for my disappointment. Should i go with a recruitng agency? Or should i look for a SNF to begin with? Somebody plz advice.:bluecry1:

Are you an RN or LVN? If you're an RN, there are plenty of hospitals that are hiring RN's....if you're an LVN, those jobs in the hospitals are rare (although there are some that do hire LVN's) and your best bet is to try a SNF or even something like VNA or something....good luck and let us know how you're doing!

I hope this doesn't come off as denigrating because I don't mean it to be.

I presume that English is not your native tongue. I would encourage you to (a) continue to study English in order to develop stronger grammar skills and (b) to play up your (presumable) other language skills.

The reality is that we are judged by the way that we speak and write and poor grammar and usage often foster a negative view of the speaker/writer. If English is not your mother tongue then it's completely understandable that you struggle with grammar.

From the small sample that I see here I would strongly encourage you to have your written communications proofed by somebody with stronger grammar skills.

From what I see, it is very competitive to get nursing jobs in the SF/North Bay/Silicon Valley/Sacramento region. You need to be as polished as possible.

Much success to you.

hey hey hey guys, i am a newly local board passer which means that i jus gained the title R.N I started processing iN CA for nclex but den i heard the news that i need to go there to get an SSS which of course i cannot because i only have a tourist visa...so i cancelled in my CA though i have not received elligibility yet so i decided to transfer to vermont..so guys how is it??do you really get a job there??wat about all these agency stuff??are they really of help??do dey really get u a job there??

I can honestly say that you're right...You must have good grammar and spelling skills before entering the working here....Although some hospitals and SNF are so desperate they will hire anybody no matter how bad their English is....but, for your own good and to protect yourself as a health care worker it's best to have the English language down because if your documentation isn't done correctly, and you're in court, what leg do you have to stand on? I'm saying this as a person who's 2nd language is English....Good luck to you and hope you find a job soon!

my mother knows sum1 hu had a tourist visa she also processed in CA but she just took an ordinary job just to get an employer and to get a social security but everything worked out fine anyway...but i really dont know its too risky i dont know the real situation for one i am here in the phils i can only hear stories different stories which can be mis leading sometimes, i was mislead already bec i processed in CA, Thinking that my tourist visa can do me a favor in fact no...it cant do me a favor d only favor it can do me is i can step in the united states if worse comes to worse..i can wait there for six months come back home go back aagain and stay for 6mos til such time dat immigration visa is completed...

She didn't say WHY s/he's not getting job offers, only that s/he's not. I doubt that employers are explaining... they usually just don't reply or they send a form letter.

I deduced the grammar issue from reading a sample of the OP's writing.

It's pretty obvious with my screen name that I'm not Filipino, but English is my 2nd language....I still struggle with it, but it's good....Just because you pass some exam doesn't mean it's proof that you're competent in the English language, all it means is that you can take an exam, but doesn't mean you can do a narrative......There are lots of foreign educated nurses who are horrible when charting in the English language...I know because I've seen it....I know my English isn't perfect, but it's good considering it's my 2nd language....Just because people speak English in the Philippines, doesn't qualify them as an expert in the English language.....They can get around, which is better than most....but reality is that speaking the language is totally different than writing in the language.....Anyhow, hope you find a job soon....Good luck!

yeah i noticed your user name and i came to realize that this is not a filipino forum i thought it was becuase everything in this forum looks exactly like a forum called ********** and i also came to realize that you are not a filipino because you dont type english words using short cut example "that=dat" hehehe filipinos are very fond of using short cuts like "cause=cuz"so when i see someone's text and it is in complete spelling aw dis i s not a fil. hehehehe anyway where are you designated in ??which part of the united states are you working in???

Hey guys i have not been hired not because of my English, infact i had 7.0 in IELTS, but because i dont have any working experience in U.S. Also i was out of bed side since my baby which is almost 3 years...so i hope that explains.

I'm just gonna' jump in here because writing and grammar are HUGE bugaboos with me....

I'd like to say to this poster, that I, as a born-and-raised American citizen am EXTREMELY offended by your post. I am proud of my country and its language, much as I am sure that you are of yours.

Perhaps your "shortcuts" would be more accepted on a "fil" website. I for one usually don't even bother wasting my time trying to decipher this "foreign" garble. There are not that many more letters from "dat" to "that" or "cause" (which should be because) or "cuz".

P.S. -- Latina: you could've fooled me. Except for your screen name, I never would've thought twice. Thanks for your back up; it adds validity to our posts.
