Concorde in Jacksonville?

U.S.A. Florida

I tried to do a search and there doesnt seem to be anyone that has gone to the nursing program at Concorde in Jacksonville. I was accepted into their Spetember class with the option of starting later this month if sopts become available. I know there are Concordes in other cities but Im sure that every city has different experiences. Any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated.

RN2BEE84 what about FCCJ, have u consider on going there?

ok, I have been giving concorde a lot of thought. It would be a great place to start if I haven't almost finished my pre-req's and I was in a hurry. I only have micro left and I finish that this summer. I will need to take the Nat again in August. My cousin called me this morning and said to me , I have a friend that just finished the nursing program at FCCJ and she wants you to have all of her books. Can you believe that???? The books alone are so expensive!!!I think that was my sign to stay on the track I have been headed down. I got really discouraged last week when I took the Nat when I didn't do well and I started looking for an easier way. ( or at least that is what I think I thought I was doing) I know FCCJ is accrediated and I know you get hired after you finish FCCJ. My cousin's friend got hired right out of college making $25.00 an hour and even more when she works nights!!! I think this is what is best for me. I have 2 children also , and if I have 35,000 in student loans to pay for , I will never be able to pay for their education as well. I wish everyone the best and hopefully we will all find the path that is best for us all!!!

Yeah, sure, the books are big help. Maybe this was a sign for u to stay at FCCJ but Concord gives u credit for the classes that u already have so your tuition would be much cheaper, my friend is a LPN and her coworker is going to Concord and his full tuition is $13.000.

Yeah, I considered FCCJ and I took a few classes there but I just don't want to wait. I like Sanford Brown.

Hey RN2Bee84! I am not sure if you check your private messages, so I am putting this in both places...I got my schedule. Start June 16 I will be there Mon - Thurs. 1-6, so maybe we can get together after that. By the way, you know about the NLN exam, right? You will have to take that before being given a spot in the program. And, if you can I highly recommend going to FCCJ or SJRCC and taking elementary and intermediate algebra. If you have time, time college algebra also. So you won't have to take it at SBI. It is so accelerated it is very difficult. I worked my tail off and passed with a C. I am always an A student, but I was happy to get a C! It was one of the hardest 10 weeks of my life!

I suggest if you take college Algebra at Fccj, you should take D. Serdynski. She is great!! I had a lot of problems with Algebra and failed it once, but passed with a "B" with her. My buddy had the same problem as me, but she got an A in her class. The only thing I would say it is very hard to get in touch with her, because I took her on-line class.

RNin10 I will try to take those classes at fccj. Was the NLN hard? Is there alot of Math on it and if so what type of math? Oh and I do check my private messages but I can only do that when I am at work because I don't have a computer at home. I plan on buying one though. I work Tue-Thur 3:30- 10:30 and Sat- Sun 11p-7a. That is why you get such late replies from me.

Hey RN2Bee...any math you take will help, but the more the better. The NLN is tough. The school has a book that you can borrow. I would get it, there is a cd with it (once you have a computer at home) load that cd and just keep taking the practice tests over and over. The questions are not exactly the same, but it does help you master some of the math that is needed. The math was pretty much elementary algebra or lower (from what I remember). Fractions, decimals, metric measurements and regular multiplication, etc. you will need to know how to convert fractions to decimals and vice versa. Also, take it as early as possible. If you don't do well you have to wait 6 months to re-test. Your scores are good for 5 years. Talk to admissions about scheduling it, I would not wait any later than December so if you have to retake it you will be able to before the July class. It is a hard test, but you can do it. Don't let it intimidate you.

Don't worry about late responses. I don't check allnurses everyday. I go in spurts. Where do you work? I didn't know HCA had overnight hours. Are you at one of the hospitals or in their office?

I work at Orange Park Medical Center. I will get the book. I will probably try to schedule it for August. I hope I do well. No let me change that.... I know I will do well. I will keep you posted.

Well my update is that I have decided not to go to Concorde. For me I am going to get my "feet wet" going through a LPN program then bridge over to FCCJ or SCRCC ASRN program or go to UNF or JU as a second degree BSN since I already have my Bachelor degree. For anyone that is interested I got into FCTC in St Augustine and they have very good NCLEX-PN scores. Good luck to you guys.

Well good luck on your new decision. I hope you do well. Is Saint Augustine close to where you live? What does FCTC stand for?

Thanks. The commute is not that bad at all. I have been doing it for the past two years. FCTC stands for First Coast Technical College.
