Concerns

Published

I'm still not sure if this is the appropriate venue, if this is the right place but I'm so concerned and in extreme need to share it that I will deeply apologize if I'm choosing the wrong venue, the wrong place.

The last days, or should I say the last years? I think that would be more precise. The last years have been extremely difficult for our country; and I should clarify I was not born in the U.S.A., but I consider myself as American as anyone else. Once more, the last years have been extremely difficult for our country and the last days have brought back memories I had "burned" in the back of my mind and thought will be there forever.

It should be worrisome for anyone, regardless of their political identification or affiliation, the course the country is taking and being witness of actions that some have only seen in history textbooks or from storytellers. I was born in a Socialist country, I had free education from Kindergarten to College (completely designed for me where I didn't have a choice, neither my parents), I also had free medical care (excellent service when you were not in need or you had a family/friend that could advocate for you). All of that came with a price, a big one chunky price!! We could not think for ourselves and we could not express what we thought, we could not dissent from the government without receiving a painful punishment that sometimes include one's life. I came here, to the land of opportunities to raise myself and my descendants in the "land of the free and the home of the brave" as my forever home. The younger generations may not understand my point, although I am not old yet, I have had my share of experiences....

This place has a lot of other things I usually do not agree with and one of them is the important place the money has and even though it may corrupt the most adorable and innocent individual. However, I was able to "deal" with and place it in the "back burner" when having my freedom of thinking, my freedom of speech and my freedom of respectfully dissenting from the elected government without fear. Well, I believe those my "freedoms" could be in danger of disappearing or being repressed.

We all do not have to think the same, we all do not have to believe on same, even we all don't have to believe but we should be respectful to each other and live like a civilized society. Everyone's rights should be respected. We have become a society based on feelings and not on facts. Some people get offended by other's way of thinking that is incredible and unthinkable to happen in this land. We "cut" people out because the way they think or who they "support”, but we accept inappropriate behaviors from the ones that supposedly think alike, is that the new norm?

Where are the principles, the moral (yes, that word exist and is part of a civilized society) and the values of the individuals, regardless of their age? I am afraid we are losing them, yes!

We have become so accustomed to comfort and delicacies that we do not realize the high price we are paying for those, and unfortunately, it is not only in dollar bills....

On this we can agree! We just have a different opinion on which party will deliver the positive outcome.

I have no loyalty to either party. The first time I was eligible to vote I voted for McCain and I was wrong. Obama did an amazing job. I am interested in what's best for the country. Republicans embracing this sort of weak, unethical, immoral politics however is really switching me over to the Dems. As a business owner I want to pay less tax, but as a rational empathetic human being and the fact that Dems suppress and repress less and make better choices for the country re women's rights, immigration, people's rights, incarceration issues, appear more considerate re the environment and the rights of LGBTQ people etc, I'm more democratic leaning now.

I cannot relate to people like Nunes, Graham, Hawley, Cotton, Cruz, McCarthy etc. I just don't like cowards and weak people, they scare me! It's easy for me to say this because I can stand up for myself but I believe that in helping others, we actually really are helping ourselves.

The adage of teaching a man to fish resonates strongly with me and I believe that the Dems are more interested in these issues. And I literally break out in hives re hypocrites! It's almost an atavastic response! I almost see red as in the proverbial bull metaphor. Say what you mean and follow it up! It's why I don't trust politicians! I want precise checks and balances for them.

My father is a lawyer and I was dragged to Wilmington Delaware often for corporate cases until I was big enough to say no. But I learned about double speak and obfuscation. My father is a master except when my mother puts her foot down and he has to shut up. And this was corporate law, not even civil or criminal.

Trump delivered incessant lies which culminated in an out of control pandemic and a violent attack on our capitol. Trump lost the popular vote twice, was impeached twice and lost republican control of the House and Senate. Maybe we have a different definition of "positive outcome".

You cannot seriously believe that it is the Republicans. It is quite obvious that it is the Republicans/conservatives who are getting fired, being banned from social media (ie canceled) etc because of their views. The Democrats and their media are the ones doing it, this isn't a news flash at this point (although you do have to get off MSM to see that).

Two privately owned corporations chose to remove the former president based on repeatedly lying about election fraud and fomenting of violence. Another private corporation refused to support a social media platform favored by groups who also lied about election fraud and supported overthrowing our democracy. This is private enterprise, not the government controlling the message.

I guarantee that if the former president wished to appear on or in any major news media, they would agree to any meaningful and respectful interview. The problem is, he knows he would be fact-checked and challenged, something he can never tolerate.

I read that he has called in to the NY Post, Fox, OAN and Newsmax in the last day or two. He has been out of the headlines by his choosing, not MSM or th the Biden administration.

When we allowed the government “to provide to us” we are allowing the government “to decide for us” that is my message, and that is what big government does for a country.

The power outage and resultant suffering in Texas is a great example of what unregulated free enterprise can do for a society.

Isn't the parallel interesting re the last republican administration repeatedly making a hash of everything and Texas republican govt' pretty much following suit?

Trickle down economics?????? Was it Sam Brownback and what state did he represent?

I just saw Ted Cruz lying about what he was doing going to Mexico. OMG! All I can say is Texas deserves him! I just wish that most republicans would move to Texas. It's almost as large as Western Europe combined so they can govern themselves.

Sounds harsh I know, but he's an elected official and the information is out there if Texas voters choose to find it. He's shown repeatedly what sort of person he is.

I have turned down several travel assignments over the last few years, solely because of the republican govt they have. Just as I take a stand and intervene against a woman being abused, I feel it's my choice to not go to somewhere I will be obviously offended or have to be impolite. It's the same principle as not going to a dangerous part of my city or to a potentially dangerous country.

When workers unionized, the opposition called it socialism.

When water, electricity, transportation, and telephone services were regulated to provide them all over the country, the opposition called it socialism.

When FDR proposed Social Security, the opposition called it socialism.

When the government regulated workplace safety, highways, bridges, and railroads fir the common good, the opposition called it socialism.

When LBJ proposed Medicare, the opposition called it socialism.

Seems like anything done by our elected government that benefits ordinary people gets that label. Doesn’t make it true, though.

I really appreciated all of you giving your time to read and comment on my thoughts...I did not expect much....due to the "difficult" topic, which has brought me happiness and sadness as well.

It is extremely difficult to take one side or another but I find it more, when your ideas don't get along with the progressive narrative and you are a conservative in modern days. It is sad to see how the hope and voice, of many, are in danger of extinction; and the reason that made me come here is becoming the reason I'm becoming afraid of being here.

I wish you all the best!

Please please do not speaking your opinion. It is so incredibly important right now. People need to hear what you say!@

I think you’d benefit by putting some more thought into this. Get a paper and pen — studies show that your brain processes ideas and emotions in a different way than when you type in screen. Take your time, maybe do one or two a day.  For example,

* What are your core conservative values? Do they include individualism, empathy, sympathy, or other values that apply to how you relate to and think about others?

* What are your duties as a citizen? How about others’ duties?

* How uncomfortable are you when you hear others espouse their opinions when they differ from yours? Not at all, a little, some, a lot? Why is that?

* Do you spend time (IRL or in online communities) with people of different opinions? How does that feel? Why?

I want to add that I'm in a mixed marriage-- conservative R and progressive D. We sat down with these questions, and others related to same-sex marriage, religious exemptions to vaccines, abortion, women's rights, immigration/naturalization, and voting, and lo and behold-- the one who said that D platform was generally abhorrent discovered many areas of congruence with the progressive D, and the progressive D who loathed McConnell and TFG had several areas of congruence c the conservative R.

Just saying. The unexamined life is not worth living.

I completely agree.

I think, however, there is intention to highlight disagreement in much of the press.  I listen to very many of the federal press briefings.  The nature of the questions is often interesting.  I frequently wonder why the press are asking the questions that they are asking, particularly related to covid policy and mitigation.

The basics are supposed to be focused upon the facts surrounding who, what, when, where, how and why...they are supposed to be informing the people, interpreting policy and investigating areas and issues of interest for the public. There is no question that a free press is necessary to balance against authoritarian aspirations, but they also have a duty to inform rather than inflame when the country is in a public health emergency right?

I would love it if this were true but absent legal remedies for libel there is no way to enforce it. Hence we have many “truths” promulgated by the various media. Each medium has its own technology and audience. For what it’s worth, I recently saw a graphic noting the inherent biases and proclivities. The top of the peak are the most impartial, and things go downhill on both sides of the spectrum from there. 54FF22DD-85DE-426A-BAB8-002E66F654A7.thumb.jpeg.70ee3db781ad31b577e52232206e0905.jpeg
