Computerized charting in the ED

Help! Can anyone recommend a computerized documentation program for ED documentation--both nursing and medical charting--from triage to D/C???

we use codonix-- which i would not recommend--too many glitches and the need to spend so much time 'editing' your entries to say what you want to say. we use 'free text' so much that we might as well just write everything down by hand

That's how Medhost was .... it is kindof like a computer game, you can see a blinking bone for who needs to go to xray, a blinking empy lab vial - they need labs. It was so user friendly. And you could click on the bed on the screen and move it to another bed. It was say "admit" when there was a bed or "hold." Meditech is outrageous - the places that continue to use this system (Where I WORK!) is simply ignorant of better and more efficient possibilities for e-charting.

My favorite is the brown things in the bed to inicate it has to be cleaned.

i found the same thing with cerner. cerner is one of the most user unfriendly programs i have encountered. i think the most frustrating part is that you continue to get an icon to do something after it was already done. to make the icon go away, you have to rechart the same action in a few places, and then, the docs still can't find what you have done.

like a clump of poo!!!!!! LOVED Medhost.... in fact when I go to work and use Meditech I am always wondering why any LARGE AND BUSY ER would use a system that is archaeic and just inefficient!

I'm working in the Ed for the first time. The Nursing/MD charting is done in Wellsoft. It's simple to use.

we use codonix in my hospital also, and definitely agree with you here, that there are too many glitches with it. :banghead:

We use PICIS. It was implemented last year. I moved from floor nursing to the ED a few months ago so it's all new to me. I like it but it's still strange that there is no chart!!! The chart is in the computer. We have a tracking board and PICIS shows empty beds and icons for tasks that need to be completed or have been completed. The icons turn green after you chart them. We also have handheld computers that do everything our desktops can do and that's where the patients sign for their discharge instructions. We hand them the paper instructions and then they sign the computer. It's actually pretty neat. :D

I miss EMSTAT We recently went to CERNER in our ED and I would tell anyone to run away if you are able. It is very inefficent, time consuming and not user friendly. Med reconciliation is difficult, no where to free text and impossible to read the chart to see what has been done.

I agree, Cerner is horrible. It is about to drive me out of nursing! I hate it.

There is a hidden way to free text; but, in is one royal PIA. Go into the assessment part and instead of doing the assessment, look to the left side of the screen and find nursing notes. Still impossible to read what has been done; but, at least, this is the section you can CYA while it appears that all you did was another assessment.

We use something similar called IBEX.

It's light years ahead of Meditech.

We had IBEX and they switched to Meditech!!!:eek: :no::no::no: :bluecry1:

It is horrible! IBEX was so easy to use....of course we had to change that!
