Competition . . . Competition . . . Competition!!!

I went to my school's open Nursing/Information meeting tonight. WOW, I was amazed at the amount of people trying to get into nursing. They have three sessions in the winter and I know there were probably 50+ people at this meeting so that would tell me about 150 - 200 people will be applying for about 40 spots. Sometimes it makes you wonder if you can ever get in??? I think I am doing well, but there are so many probably doing much better than me.

Were you guys overwhelmed at the competition???

It's crazy isn't it? I went to an info session for Philips Beth Israel last year and there were at least 150 people at the session. They ran out of chairs and people were standing in the back and sides of the room.

It is overwhelming, but how exciting it is to be one of those 40!! I am up against 1000 applicants....yikes!

Yep! Very scary. I'm up against 600+ for only 50 spots. I'm looking for alternate routes.

Think positive because the majority of those people don't have the minimum competitive GPA of 3.5. ;)

I am slightly overwhelmed for the same reasons we only have 12 spots in the fall and 24 in the spring and 200+ applicants each time. All I can do is the best I can I am going to worry about getting in next fall when I apply

Woooow that sounds REALLLLLLLY tough!!!!!

Good luck ;)

I'm feeling the competition from the young gunners in my Micro class. Since I'm not faced with those big numbers, but only those young smart faces, its serving to spur me on instead of depressing me! lol

My school accepts less than 10% of applicants, but at the info session she said the majority have a lower GPA than they know they need. The regular upper division admission doesn't usually take below a 3.6/3.7, and they have people apply with 3.2s. If you have a 3.8, you know you're getting in.

I am an older student, too. Lots of the "young gunners" like to party and aren't focused on their studies as much so don't let them scare you. They are too busy trying to impress the opposite sex and most can't stand on their feet for more than 5 minutes.

Oh they don't scare me! Okay, earlier in the semester I was, but not now. Now my competitive nature has kicked in and I'm chasing them hard. lol Sure there are a few partiers in my class, but also some real focused ones including a very impressive guy who's taking a full load including micro & API while working full-time - and maintaining a 3.87 GPA! All of these kids are aiming for nursing and I'm doing everything I can do to follow and learn from their example.

We have 600+ applicants for about 100 slots. This semester we will need at least a 3.7 overall GPA with A's in Algebra, A&P I and II and Chemistry to get in.
