Commute to your job?

Published

Hello. I am wondering how far is everyone commuting to work? What are your hours ? If you commute are you able to get out on time?

Lastly, if you do a 8-5 how do you balance work and family life?

Thanks in advance!

I work 20 miles away and it takes 20-25 min. I'm like DJmattee, I get up at 5, workout, go to work, and get home about 5:30 ish.

I live in a large and congested metro area and bought a home in the suburbs where it's quieter. Since I work right in the city, my car commute can get annoying with traffic and bridge crossing. I take advantage of our network of public transportation (rapid transit railway, light rail) and get to work slower but I save myself the aggravation of traffic slow-downs by listening to music and podcasts or reading through the commute.

Current commute is 45 minutes, I work 4 days a week and the days I work I am also on call. I don't mind the commute but I do feel like my brain never shuts off when I am on call. I am waiting for my NP license to post so I can start applying to other jobs closer to home, but I do love my RN role.

Nice! 10 minutes is luxury!

My commute with similar hours is 35min- 1 hour 20 min one way depending on the weather and day of the week. There is no balance. I never get out on time. I preferred 12 hour days (with a bad commute) 3 days per week because at least I was home 2 more days per week. Cant find a 12 hour day job or I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Specializes in NICU.

20 minutes to one hospital, 40 minutes to another, and 60 minutes to the third. But I generally work 24s, about 6 each month, so it's not too bad.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I work in multiple places throughout the day and travel is figured into my day. I have very flexible hours and as long as I work at least 40 hours and my pts get seen, no hassles.

DJmattee wow you wake up at 5 and working out! Thats awesome.

Do yall like a 9-5? Or would you rather do 3 12s?

Thank you!! I am working in primary care! And I actually enjoy working 9-5 so far because I like having evenings and weekends off
