comfy shoes

what about flat feet? I have a tendency to walk on the insides of my feet and I just cannot find a pair of shoes that keep my feet and hips from hurting. I'm not a nurse yet, Though i plan on starting school for it soon. No time like now to start finding the good shoes! lol BTW i admire you guys and your jobs and hope I can be as good a nurse as you guys.

I have flat feet and wear Dansko sports. They work for me. I tried Birkenstock and got tendonitis from them - nearly crippled me (and that's the prescription shoe for problem feet!). The Danskos not only survive my shifts, but they also greatly reduced my tendonitis (nearly cured).

Have tried Nike, Reebok, New Balance, Keds, Adidas - I have to put inserts in them or they kill my feet.

Most of my co-workers wear Merrells. Many of them swear by them. Some wear SAS shoes. One swears by Easy Spirits. I have to say that I'm a Dansko girl!

I love my crocs. They are the highlander style and all white though they do come in other colors. They feel like walking on butter and last my whole 12 hrs. They do make kind of a funky suction noise when walking, at least mine do. But I do love them. The sizes do run larger and are wide. Good Luck with your search. www.crocs.com

what are the most comfy nurses shoes you've had?

The shoes I usually buy are Nikes. They seem to fit my "flexible arches" the best--nice way of saying flat feet. :rotfl:

One year (yes, a year) I was walking around on feet that were "killing me." I broke down and went to a podiatrist. I had plantar fascitis and needed orthotics. The orthotics have made all the difference in the world. I just change them to what ever pair of shoes I may be wearing that day.

And when the shoes are getting too worn (as if a person couldn't see that), my feet will start aching, I know it's time to break down and buy new shoes.

I was looking at the crocs website......to all you folks out there....I wear a 11 in K-swiss sneakers......do the crocs run true to size on regular shoes....like on width? I need to get more comfortable shoes....and these are something I would like to try.

I too wear crocs, but they only come in every other size like 8/9 and 10/11. I normally wear a 9 but had to buy the 10/11 because I have a long big toe :) they are pretty wide, so if you have wide feet they're probably a safe bet. You may be able to find them in a store so that you can try them on. In my town all the big department stores like Dillards carry them.

I had Dansko clogs which were comfortable but when I needed to replace them I decided to try Quark Pro-Air, as they are half the price. I LOVE my new Quarks. They are super light but have good arch support. My feet are a little wide, not enough to need a wide width, but enough that some shoes are too tight, but the Quarks fit perfectly. Can't say enough good things about them.

Ok a couple of questions.....
How are the Birkenstock Professional Clogs? Has anyone here ever tried these? . . . The only problem I have is a wide foot. I wear a 9.5 W shoe and it's so hard to find anything to fit. We have to wear all navy or white shoes so that's the other dilemma.
I guess I just have weird feet and if the Crocs or the Birkenstock Professionals don't wind up working for me I'll have to search for some all white New Balance but I do hate all white shoes. UGH.

Sandy, I used to wear Reeboks, but then developed hip/heel pain - tried inserts but they only made the heel pain worse. Anyway, I wound up going to the local BIRKENSTOCK store and voila! - no more pain! They lowered my heel which ended my pain, and they feel like you are barefoot!

Suggestions: Do not buy them on the internet - you MUST be professionally fitted in order to get the most comfort. BTW, the toe box is wide so your toes do not get crunched. It takes several wearings to break them in - so don't give up! I now have 3 pair: 2 for leisure - and the worst part is breaking them in to mold to your feet. Wear a few hours - then take them off. You'll have them broke in in no time and its definitely worth the effort.

They are expensive, but buy the care kit and USE IT! This will extend the life of your shoes. Since Birkenstocks can be resoled (~$35) every couple years if necessary, and the cork inserts can be replaced as well on most models, I've personally known people who have had their Birkenstocks for 10 years, so they are cheaper than buying new Reeboks every 6 months. Also, don't leave them in a hot car!

I bought some Crocs about 3 weeks ago and my husband makes fun of the fact that I wear them everywhere, work, the yard, out to eat, really everywhere. My only concern is that if I still worked med/surg, I wouldn't like the holes on the top. They do make a model without the top holes.

I work in Trauma which can be messy at times. My Crocs are closed and they cost me around 35.00. They come in all the great colors too!

those z-coils are some interesting looking shoes. how much do they cost, new? seems they'd be expensive

You have to be careful when wearing them. Watch out for IV tubing. That is their only downfall.

I have been a nurse for over 20 years I have worn them all Nurse mates, SAS, cherokee, reebock, nike, kswiss, quarks. To show you how long I have been on my feet I was wearing EARTH shoes back when they were "IN". I've done dansko (a pair which I feel walking to the parking lot and broke my ankle on graceful I know) I have clarks, I have Finn Comfort. I have also gained and gain lost and gained weight again over the years.

The one shoe I wear now both at work and off work is Birkenstock. They may not look like much but at the end of the day I can still walk.

I'm sorry but the Zcoil is the ugliest shoe I believe I have ever seen. I have seen several nurses with them but I haven't tried them, I'm afraid I'd fall off of them. :rotfl: I wear New Balance, suggested by podiatrist, they are great.
