my feet hurt!...
what are the most comfy nurses shoes you've had?
what about flat feet? I have a tendency to walk on the insides of my feet and I just cannot find a pair of shoes that keep my feet and hips from hurting. I'm not a nurse yet, Though i plan on starting school for it soon. No time like now to start finding the good shoes! lol BTW i admire you guys and your jobs and hope I can be as good a nurse as you guys.
I have hopellessly flat feet. I've had flat feet since I can remember and I've had the foot/ankle/knee/lowerback problems that go right along with them. I have to have orthotics made for my feet. I go to my chiropracter, he makes an impression of my feet and off they go to Foot Levelers. Foot Levelers not only make orthotics they also make sandles (sandothotics) and tennis shoes.
I get the sandles (I can't wear normal sandles because they make my back hurt) and the orthotics. If I'm buying shoes, they have to have an insole that is removable so that I can replace it with my orthotics. I also have my orthotics with me when I buy shoes because they make the shoes fit differently. Personally, I like New Balance. But for work, I bought the Rockers R-clogz lites. They are lighter than a dream, my orthotics fit in them, and they are the cooshiest clog that I've ever worn.
I may try other clog style shoes (dansko and crocs). I've found that the clog style offers my foot a lot of different positioning options. That and I just had ankle surgery and they don't rub on the malioli. :)
Good luck in your own search.

My #1 pick is the Birkenstock London. They come in white, among other colors, are VERY comfortable, and last for years. They cost about $150, but considering that my last pair lasted about 4 years (full time) they were a good value. Before that I was replacing traditional "nursing" shoes about every 6 months at $40-$50 a pop.
My #2 pick is a mid-end New Balance running shoe. Of course the shoe sales people will insist on a walking shoe for nurses, but I work in the ER. A running shoe gives good support and breathes well and is durable. Unfortunately, they do not come in all white.
I love my Danskos, so happy they started making the professionals in Narrow sizes. Still limited on color though.
Nursemates we the worst!!!!!!!!!!!! My feet were dying after 3 hours. :angryfire
I wear sneakers for leisure but not for work they can never make it through my twelve hour shift.
Ok a couple of questions.....
How are the Birkenstock Professional Clogs? Has anyone here ever tried these? That's what I was planning on going with. But now that I've heard all the talk about the Crocs I'm thinking of trying a pair of those too. They are much less expensive and look very comfortable. The only problem I have is a wide foot. I wear a 9.5 W shoe and it's so hard to find anything to fit. We have to wear all navy or white shoes so that's the other dilemma.
I've tried the Dansko's on but they don't fit my foot right, too narrow and they don't come in wide. I went up a size like they suggested but then my heal slipped up and down when I walked. So those are definitely out.
I have a few friends who have the Allpro Birkenstocks and I have a pair of brown slip on clogs that I wear everywhere else. I've found that if I wear them for long periods of time they seem to rub a blister on my feet.
I guess I just have weird feet and if the Crocs or the Birkenstock Professionals don't wind up working for me I'll have to search for some all white New Balance but I do hate all white shoes. UGH.
Thanks for the info.

I bought a pair of croc's and like them a lot. They are very wide, and tend to run big. I normally wear a size 9 and am wearing a 7 in these. Make sure you go try them on before ordering them over the internet. I find them very comfy, but think they may not be supportive enough to last a 12 hour shift of constant walking and standing. (I am at a mostly sitdown job right now.) As a previous poster stated, having more than one pair of shoes to alternate is a fine idea. If you can afford it, try both.

Birkenstocks. I have flat feet and need good support, and Birks have always come through. I wear them everywhere.
