Has anyone here applied to the Summer 2010 admission at Columbus Tech? :)
I've learned that they have received 230 applications for admission this year....wow! Good luck to all of us that have applied.
yes, I have already taken micro also, i enjoyed it also but it is a lot of material so you have to stay on top of it and study! (really just a lot of memorization)
I was going to take the nur 101, eng 1102, and psy 2103 but got a call saying the psy 2103 will not be offered this qtr (will be next qtr) so i have to drop it and add either humanities or speech..
Fellow science geek here, so I'm sure I'll love it also!
Other than the nursing classes, I only have micro and psy2103 to take. I just hope I can get into one of the micro classes. Last time I checked, it looked like there were a few spots in each class. Apparently I can't register until the add/drop opens back up on Monday.
I'm excited too. I'm not sure if it's nerves, but definitely excited! I wonder too what they will tell us. Have either of you heard how many they accepted?
I guess since you (Constance) are taking it at the Flint River campus, they must be splitting up the class? Did you specifically apply for that campus? I didn't even know they had classes there. Like I said in my other post about it, when I was looking at the school to apply, the advisor told me the same thing that the other person had posted about Flint River not being associated with Columbus Tech anymore. Maybe something happened that it didn't work out for them not to change. Who knows.
I think it is up in the air now, because I applied to the Flint Tech Campus but after reading the post about Columbus Tech not being associated with Flint Tech I asked the administrative assistant over the Flint Tech campus and basically it is up in the air. One of the instructors from Columbus Tech emailed me back and said they will make a decision on a quarter by quarter basis as to where we would have our classes. As of now, we are going to have to go to the Columbus Tech campus for classes this semester. SO I will see you on the Columbus Tech Campus this semester but I have a feeling I will see you here for the entire program lol. I live in Griffin GA, that is an hour 45 min drive to the campus everyday but I am so determined that the distance doesnt matter to me.Flint Tech is so much closer, only 30 mins. But either way, I will be ready.
Hi Eniles2, Paeonia & Constance,
Congratulations to you all!
Here are a few tips on the books you've mentioned. I haven't seen your list, but I expect you're to get Kozier & Erbs Fundamentals (a fat white book) and the accompanying workbook. You'll use the K&E all the way thru school; it's that important. I've heard you don't have to do the workbook anymore, but do it anyway. You'll be very surprised how many things you'll recognize on tests! Look online for books. I've had pretty good luck with half.com and amazon (both new & used). I haven't used eBay, but know some who have and they've been pleased.
Second, and this is just a personal preference, I really wouldn't go the rollybag route. I lugged books in a messenger bag for a while, but then realized I didn't really need them in class. Most of the teachers use PowerPoint presentations. Some of them post either the slides or an outline (Burger) of the lecture ahead of time. I did best when I read the book at home, printed the PowerPoint to take to class to take notes on, then reviewed the parts of the book that the PowerPoint covered at home. Again, this is just my preference, but sometimes the lecture won't exactly follow the book order, so I'd be fussing over finding a place when I needed to be concentrating on the lecture. (Also, you walk a ways from the parking area sometimes. The rollybags are cumbersome & they're a pain in the rain.)
Good luck with whatever way works best for you!
Oh! Another thing...there is an exemption test for 2103. It isn't hard; you only have to get a 70 or 80, I forgot. But I got 12 points over the requirement, and didn't study all that long for it. It used to cost $25 to take the test, but if you pass you get a refund for the tuition for that class. Check with the learning center.
What did you think of your orientation? Did the current seniors give you any good info?
Take care, and best of luck to you all!
Hi Katy - Thanks so much for all the great suggestions! Yes, we are to get the white book you mentioned. I got all my books on Amazon. I'm always a little nervous ordering used books, but I've had good luck in the past, so hopefully these will be good.
I will definitely be checking into the test for 2103. I'll have to take it in the Fall quarter and that's the last non-nursing class I have to take. It would be nice not to have to worry about another class. What did you use to study for it, did you just use the book for that class?
Orientation was great, except it was SOOO cold in that room! The seniors gave us some really good advice and were very optimistic, but also let us in on the reality of it all. I can't wait to get started next week.
hi paeonia, i got your message but couldn't respond b/c I am new on here and haven't had enough posts to send private messages....We will def have to meet next week, you will not have a problem finding me, I am the idiot that walked in late for orientation! The most important day and I COMPLETELY FORGET ABOUT IT!!! I was thinking it was the following monday for some reason!! It is so unlike me to be late or miss something! I realized it around 10:20 when I was on the way back from taking my kids to daycare, I rushed home to get ready and rushed to get there..it was probably around 11:30 when I finally made it!.... I was sooooo upset with myself and cried all the way there!! But Ms. Danford knows that I am always on top of everything and knows that it was not like me, so they said just to read my book and I will be okay...I was so worried about missing something important! All I could think was wow, I made a good impression!

I was wondering how much it was going to cost for all of them. $100 isn't too bad. I'll have to pick them up on Monday. I also need to register for Microbiology. Have you both already registered for that class? I was holding off registering for it until I found out for sure I was accepted.
