Columbus State??

U.S.A. Ohio

Anyone else go to or waiting to get into COlumbus State?

Yes, I have spoken with a nursing advisor and have been told this. Why would I get advice on a specific program from anyone but a program advisor? Also, don't be offended by the luck comment. Actually, it does have a great deal to do with luck. The acceptances aren't awarded much by merit as they are with when you got your foot in the door, so to speak, so it does have a great deal to do with luck......and believe me, I'm busting my butt, too. I'm working to complete my BA at Ohio State while at the same time finishing my prereqs to apply to the RN program. I'm working two jobs and taking 25 credit hours.

Question: you say you'll be done with the RN prereqs in 4 weeks but you've applied already? How does that work?

Thanks for the information! If you dont mind me asking, are you already an LPN? If so what pre requs are needed for the LPN to RN?? I have microbiology and an Intro to Chem completed, ( I think I may need to pick up another Chem class) When I called to ask questions they pretty much told me to wait until I have my LPN in Sept, then contact them.

I'm in my last quarter of the LPN program there, and they have given us information on the LPN to RN track.

If you go on the Nursing department homepage, and go to the Nursing section, there is a link for "LPN to RN admission requirements"

Should help you out

:)

Wow! I did not mean to start a snippy little match. I truly was just trying to be helpful. A lot of people do go to just general counselors about the nursing program. I was not insulting you or anything. I just know that there is a lot of communication barriers at Columbus State and was trying to offer help with that. I guess I did not speak correctly previously. All of my pre reqs are done. I mean I will be finished with all of my non nursing classes in 4 weeks. Meaning that all I have left after that are my actual nursing courses. I have taken all my anatomy, physios, pathos, micro and that kind of stuff. Again I am sorry that you appear to have taken my comments as anything but genuinley trying to be helpful. I dont think I work any harder than anyone else and did not mean to come across that way. I just mean that I have worked very hard to get all of the other classes out of the way before I start the actual nursing program.

My understanding of it all is that it is a first come first serve application process. Once your reqs are done, you apply online on the designated days. You have to try to get in right when the app process opens up online. As long as you are one of the first people to apply, you should be pretty high up on the list. Now I know that people who have applied before get first priority so yes that can cause you to be put further down on the list. But again from my info, there is not a huge waitlist. I dont know if my info is right but I am just sharing what I have heard and experienced as that is what was asked for.

The next time to apply I believe is July 10th at 9 am. Be sure that you are in front of the computer then to apply and I guess we will all se what happens.

Again, I was simply trying to give the info I have been given. None of knows who is getting the right info. That supports what I said about the communication sucking at Columbus State. We are all in this together and should be trying to help each other. That is honestly what I was trying to do. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Thanks for the PM. I am a tad cranky this week (shocking) so I think I overreacted. I was just getting frustrated because I definitely had researched this inside out and upside down and I felt like you were talking down to me and doubting where I got my information. I definitely hope YOU have the correct information, and I hope it stays that way til it's time for me to apply in January. I want to be DONE and working before boyfriend finishes med school, or at least early on in his residency.

I understand how the application process works, I just didn't understand how you aren't done with prereqs yet but applied in January. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your academic progress and what you meant by prereqs.

I am cranky too. LOL We will just blame it on the school. There are per requs like the mult 120 and 126 and that type of stuff and then there are the non nursing classes that many people take while they are in the program. These are classes like Pathophys, anatomy, microbiology etc. When you look at the nursing schedule those classes are listed in the schedules for when you are in nursing school. What I have done is I have taken all those classes that are non nursing classes and got them out of the way so that when I am in the program, I am only taking the nursing classes and not any of the extra stuff? Does that make sense? I feel like I am being really inarticulate. My brain is so fried.

My prere have been done for a while and were done when I applied. On top of that, I have also finished all the other non nursing classes that are in the program.

No, that makes perfect sense. As I was replying to your PM it clicked that you were probably talking about those classes. I'm planning on doing the same so I won't have so much to do while in the actual program. Plus I'll have a bachelor's degree so that will knock the program down from a hundred-whatever hours to about 84 credit hours or something very close. Next winter will probably be my final quarter @ OSU since I'm getting everything out of the way this summer and autumn to apply to the program. Next spring if all goes according to schedule I'll also start knocking down all those non-nursing classes.

Another thing you could do since you will have a bach degree is you could look into the online program for nursing. Not something I myself would want to do but I have a really good friend who is starting that in the fall. She got in the very first time she applied for it. Just another avenue you could look into.

Are you all talking to actual nursing advisors? Because I have and they are the ones telling me that so many people are getting such bad information about a waitlist that really is not there. Who knows who is getting the right information ya know? I am just going by what I was told. And I haven't gotten my acceptance letter yet. They go out on the 10th of June so dont congratulate me yet. And as far as "luck". I would not call it that. I have busted my butt to get these pre reqs out of the way and made it so all I have left is nursing. The communication around Columus State does suck. Everyone seems to get different information about things. Hopefully we will all be shocked and get in more quickly than we think.

I know this is a late post, but dont assume anything, even if your told something by an advisor.

Until you have the acceptance letter in hand, you are not in. Lots of promises are made over the phone with good intentions, but it may not pan out.

Good luck. Hope your in the program and doing well.
