Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.
Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...
Anyone else preparing for this also?

It sounds like Columbia has some great aspects to the program! Unfortunately I live in San Diego so I couldn't make it to any of the info sessions, but overall I have heard some great things about the school. I am finishing by business degree at San Diego State and will graduate this december, which I am so excited for! I am ready to actually focus on what I want to do. I have worked/internship at the UCSD Oncology Center specializing with pediatric brain and neurology for the past 2 years and was also able to work at a private oncology center this summer specializing in breast cancer. Both have been great experiences and is the main reason why I want to go into oncology. Also, my grandfather passed away from cancer so I too have a personal reason for wanting to pursue oncology. Well, hopefully we both get some great news come Feb, I am so nervous and excited for that time to finally get here!
Hi KKandes-
I am from San Diego as well and could not attend the info sessions. I also applied to the Accelerated MSN program but not for oncology, for psych/mental health.
That would be great if both of us native Californians got in - we could talk about the weather change =0. Did you apply to UCSF as well since they are closer to home and also have a great program?
Hey Californians-
Do you miss the weather yet =0? Most of the schools I applied to are on the East Coast as well with the exception of UCSF, OHSU (Oregon), and USD (who doesn't offer specialties, just the typical MSN degree). I agree that it would be a very different and unique experience moving to the East for a few years, but most of my family is here in CA, and my mom has heart disease and is my best friend so it would be sad to be so far from her! In the end, if you have to sacrifice a few years of your life to ultimately live your dream I consider that a pretty good deal =). I am applying to the psych/mental health NP track and just had a phone interview with the University of Rochester (went great - crossing my fingers!), have an interview scheduled in late January with UCSF, and have yet to hear back from the 6 other schools I applied to, including Columbia. Good luck to all of you - it would be great to have fellow Californians in the mix :).

Hi school24,
I applied to other BSN programs but no other combined BSN/MS Anesthesia programs because I didn't get my application together on time or didn't have time to do all the prereqs.
On this thread, cu2140 and A1551 give excellent info about the ETP program itself. I can't really tell you about the MS program since I haven't started yet.
10 people got admitted in the ETP/Anesthesia track. There are a total of about 150 students in the ETP program. In terms of admission criteria, I think that the school looks at the application in general, including the personal statement.

Kkandes,
I heard a lot of great things about Columbia's masters programs at the information session this October. Nothing specifically about the oncology program but I liked how Columbia's program included many more clinical hours than other programs and the fact that the professors who teach and will mentor us through the Master's program are currently still working/employed in the field. As for my interest in oncology it is mostly from personal experiences with two close family members close to me going through treatment for breast cancer so I am looking to specialize in women's heath oncology. Do you have experience in oncology yet? I am working as a CNA in a nursing home here in Baltimore so that is my nursing experience thus far. But I cannot wait to here in February I received an email that my application is complete I just have to send my semester grades and the courses I am taking for my last semester at University of Maryland, CP! Good luck! Let me know if you here anything interesting about the oncology program specifically.
