Columbia University ETP 2011

Published

Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.

Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...

Anyone else preparing for this also? :clown:

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, but I've been reading it for a while now. (It's been so helpful).

I am applying to Columbia ETP. I just started my application today! I plan on taking the GRE at the end of October.

I suggest everyone to go to the information session, if they have a chance. It was really insightful.

Good luck!

Hey One. Two. Three.

I am also applying for the Columbia ETP Program :) Would you mind sharing any info from the information session you went to? I would love to go, but unfortunately I live in California and can't make it out there. Any info would be great!! Thanks and good luck with the process!!

Hi KKandes. Here are a few points that I thought was really helpful.

  • After you passed the NCLEX you get to practice nursing until it's time to start your Masters. (They give you a year if necessary) And depending on where you practice they might pay for your masters.
  • They do provide scholarships up to ~$34,000. (Tuition is ~$90,000)
  • They look at everything (GPA, GRE, personal statement, recommendations)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer it.

Thanks for sharing, one.two.three! I'm in the same boat as KKandes. Would love to attend an info session, but I'm all the way in CA!

How is the application going for everyone?

C.

Columbia was the last application left on my "to-do" list and got it submitted today! So, now I have to find a hobby to get me to February decisions...maybe I can learn to knit :clown: Good luck everyone!

Hopkins -- congrats. Knitting is fun, I look forward to getting back to it once I submit my ETP app on October 28 :)

Where else did you apply, out of curiosity? Two schools I wanted to apply to seem to have just put their apps up!

Good luck!

Well I attend the Open House today. Well I was on the fence about applying before simply due to the amount of money that is required and the possibility of no longer offering the NNP specialty . But I heard positive news and I will give it a try.

If I get in Columbia it won't require a move since I live in Westchester. Well before I was on the fence but I will be applying for Neonatal NP program.

Hopefully I will get in.....hopefully we all get in.

If anyone has any questions ask ... the answer might have been given at the open house. I will post the reply.

What was the positive news you received?

Concerning financial aid. The ETP ( BS) part of the program costs $73k. The need based scholarship has a max of $25K for this portion. There is also the strong possibility of there being diversity/high need scholarships that will be around $10K. After the that uncovered need is as low as $37K area....at least for me due to my income and the low number advanced practice nurses of my ethnicity/economic class. The rest can be covered by loans.

It is still pricey but at least it is for a sane amount.

Any other questions?

Hello everyone, I'm new here.

I'm ready to apply for the ETP now, and I just took the GRE today.

I did 1200 in GRE, and my GPA was around 3.5. Besides, I have 70 observation hours in hospital as well as private clinic.

Am I competitive?

What other things I can do to boost up my application?

Hi Everyone,

I have been keeping up with the posts, and decided to add my own! I was accepted into the 2010 ETP program & FNP specialty, and had to defer attendance for a year because of my current job. I just wanted to wish everyone good luck with their applications, and say that I look forward to meeting many of you in NY this coming June!

Hi everyone,

I am applying to the Columbia ETP 2011. I am a teacher in an NYC private school. I have a BA from an Ivy League school, an MA from a very good college, and I'm doing well in my prerequisites. I'm taking the GRE at the end of October. Hopefully I'll get in, but it's a long time from November to mid-February.

I'm most worried about my GRE math grade. I'm being tutored for two hours a week up until the exam, but as a humanities person, the math makes me sweat.

I am applying for the Adult Nurse Practitioner program, as I'd like to specialize in Palliative/End of Life/Geriatric care later on.

Good luck to everyone. Anyone else applying to the Adult program?
