Hey Everyone!
Just wanted to start this thread for those who are all applying to the Columbia School of Nursing MDE program for 2019 Entry.
I figured we could all share our thoughts/ questions/ concerns here, or just use this to meet some new people ?
My name is Gurdeep, I'm from NY, and I'm a recent Grad from Binghamton University. Looking forward to meeting all of you ?
I think they mention in the second email they sent that Jan. 7th was a priority deadline. I also submitted mine about four days late- I'm not sure how exactly it might affect said financial aid package but I wouldn't think that submitting after Jan. 7th means you won't get any need-based aid. I also heard need-based aid packages come out (hopefully!) this week or at the very least in the near future.
Hi everyone! I also got accepted in the MDE program. Congratulations to all those who’ve got in! For those who have been accepted to exclusively MDE, was the scholarship displayed on the acceptance letter? And does anyone know any information about financial aid. I submitted all of my information before January 7th. I’m leaning towards Columbia, but the tuition is killer!

It sure is. I think this year the amount is $15,000 for merit scholarship. Need-based ones are not released yet.

As far as I know, you have to commit to three years if you choose Yale because the certificate you get after completing the nursing-entry portion of the program is not a degree. Only after 2 more years, you become an APRN. That's not the case for Columbia, where one can graduate after a year after getting the MSN degree. But I am assuming the cost between the two is also quite different, am I right?

That is why I think the program at Columbia is superior. It takes roughly 4 years but you graduate with an MSN+DNP+Specialty. If you go to Yale and would like to have a Doctoral degree in Nursing you would have to commit to 3 years + the additional time for the DNP.
Hi all, actually the degree after MDE is not MSN, it is MS. To be an APRN, one has to complete the DNP program. Only with MDE, one can be an RN. I was accepted to the MDE program but am hesitating because the class load is very high and you will still be an RN. That's why I will probably stick with NYU ABSN and try to do DNP after some work experience. I am just worried that my GPA may drop with such a high load.
