Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

That's awesome! Congrats to you both!!

Don't blame you on leaning towards SUNY... Private schools are so expensiveee.

Yeah, I agree. I'm looking at the 30k per semester for Emory and not feeling so good :/ It's crazy how expensive professional schools are.

Did everyone receive the email about the meet and greet and visiting students day? Just wondering if thats something they sent to everyone or if it goes only to those being accepted. #FindingAGlitch

I believe it was a general email

Hi all! New to this thread - but I'm right there with you all..the wait is insane!

I've already been accepted to SUNY Downstate's ABSN program and waitlisted at Johns Hopkins. If I somehow don't get off of Johns Hopkins waitlist, I'm hoping Columbia will be the way to go! Anyone else waiting on other replies from schools?

In regards to choosing a SUNY over a private school, from many of the nurses I talk to at work, they all recommend to go with a cheaper option - given in the end we all sit in for the NCLEX and become an RN. But then on the other hand, some say by attending private schools, the networking would be super beneficial in the long run. What are your thoughts?

Ooooh I'm in the same exact boat and would love to hear anyone else's thoughts!! I'm accepted to SUNY Downstate ABSN too, and waiting on a few other combined programs (including Columbia) which all are private schools. Many NPs I've talked to give the advice that it doesn't matter where you get your degrees from -- just choose the cheapest option! But I'm worried about the gap between the SUNY ABSN and the next step, basically getting sick at imagining the process of applying to grad schools once again next summer. Major dread for redoing this whole process. But perhaps worth it, if we're talking about saving 20k per semester??

Looking at the most recent email, it seems like there are a lot of applicants from California :)

Y'all - this wait is killing me. I've never been so anxious before. Am I the only one hoping for a decision by Feb 2nd? Something tells me that will be our day!

I am anxious as well! I think Feb. 2nd makes sense, because the visitation is exactly one month after. Here's to good news for ALL of us!

I emailed this week and they're still saying mid-February. Seriously hoping they're wrong and we hear back sooner! I don't think I've ever been so anxious

Ugh so sad :( But from past forums, they used to say that even when decisions were released the day of lol

Hey guys! I know waiting is terrible right now. I applied last year and head back on February 2nd and was waitlisted. I hope that helps. I remember last year they also said mid February but I have a feeling it's gonna be the same day or within the first week of Feb! We got an email saying a decision was made on portal so you would just log in and it would say what your decision is. I hope that eases your anxiety a little bit!

Thank you so much for this info! Def helped with my anxiety! Can you tell us a little bit more about the waitlist process at Columbia? Is it usually long/short? Did many people get off of the waitlist? Any additionally info helps! Thanks!
