Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

For the waitlisted applicants, has anyone tried asking about keeping our application active for the next cycle? I asked if we could keep it active and possibly edit/add to the application. The person at admissions just said I'd have to create a completely new application. I was wondering if anyone heard anything else about it? :)

Waitlisters- I called today for the final time and told them how I was waiting on them to finalize a decision at another school and really needed to know. They forwarded me to the head of admissions who informed me that they are in fact at capacity and that there "has been no movement in the waitlist and they aren't expecting there to be from here forward." I was upset but relieved to finally have our answer. I asked him (just for my sanity haha) if I should take the other opportunity and he encouraged me to take other options as Columbia is essentially not taking anyone else. I hope that clears things up for people!

I hope a past applicant or current MDE student may be able to give me some advice. I am currently registering for my prerequisite courses. Due to my busy work schedule I have decided to take all of the courses online. Will this make my application less competitive? My Bachelor's degree is in Biology so I figured my ability to withstand rigorous science courses may not come into question. Thank you! Btw these threads have been so helpful in my application process, thank you all for sharing your experiences.

Hey there! I was wondering how you like the program so far and how many students are in your class?

Hi! The program has been pretty good so far. It's very challenging, but we are learning so much so fast! I know that's really vague... Do you have any specific questions?

I believe there are around 211 of us in this year's MDE cohort. From what I've heard about half of those will go on to do the DNP program, half will go to work as RNs!

Hi! I know this is a SUPER late response, but hopefully an answer will still be helpful. I took several of my prerequisites online (Microbiology with lab, statistics, and human development). It was not a problem with my application at all. Many of my classmates also took online prerequisites and they were totally fine!

Hi! Yes, definitely helpful. Puts my mind at ease while I wait for decisions. Thank you

Hi everyone! I just got into Columbia's MDE 2019 program. I'd love to attend, but pretty concerned on finances for the program. If anyone could share their experiences for financial aid/scholarships, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, their experience as an accelerated student, pace of classes and tips! Thanks so much!

Hello everyone! I have been waitlisted for MDE 2019 program. Do you know any one who was waitlisted and got into the program last cycle. From the threads I don't think any one got in. Please help!

Thank you

Hello everyone! My name is Jeffrey and I graduated from the MDE program at Columbia and am currently in the first year of the DNP/ FNP portion. If you need further information I am generally pretty good at responding to questions each week, but if you're going to attend the visiting day, you'll get most of your questions answered there. In the meantime give me a shout with your questions, and I'll see if I can help! Best, JSB
