Hi AN fellows!
I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!
If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!
Looking forward to hearing from some of you!
Hi everyone! Good luck to everyone applying, taking classes, or currently in the program. I was wondering if there was anyone on here who didn't have a lot of volunteer experience or only a little bit of experience? I am looking to apply for next year and I am submitting my application this september/october. I have been reading and it seems they take everything into consideration. I am volunteering this summer, I am doing an EMT course and looking to volunteer at a hospital and ambulance, as well as continue volunteering throughout the year at the hospital, is that too little of volunteer experience? I am nervous about applying because I feel as though I do not have enough volunteer experience or that I will have too little.

I think that you'll be fine. It seems like you'll have around 6-8 months of volunteering experience, which I would consider enough. I had a bit more, but I do think 6 months would be considered the threshold for adequate volunteering experience. Just keep in mind that Columbia looks at applicant's holistically, volunteering experience alone won't drastically increase your chances, so be sure to be well-rounded!
For those of you still waiting on the wait list, have you spoken to anyone in the office recently? I've called so many times and she always tell me she doesn't have an answer for me :/ tomorrow is May and I feel like we should just assume they're not using it this year bc this is way later than other years..

I've called them a bunch, I've been talked in circles. She did tell me as of last week that they are at capacity so I would venture to say this point unfortunately for us waitlisters I don't think we're getting in. I'm confused how they're at capacity since it seems like a decent amount of people gave up their seats but maybe the overfilled from the get go and never needed to utilize the waitlist? Who knows, hopefully we'll have better luck next year!

Still nothing yet either! I emailed them a last week and all she said was I could expect to hear anywhere from now until the week prior to orientation (may 30). I hope they let us know something before then! On the bright side, if they don't use the waitlist this year, our applications will be considered again next year...best of luck y'all :)
