Hi AN fellows!
I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!
If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!
Looking forward to hearing from some of you!
I would go the cheaper option. Stony is a fantastic program which two of my friends have completed and moved onto advanced degrees from. Can on any students who are in the program comment on the NCLEX pass rate? The state of NY website has it at 77.5% which is lower than many of the CUNY's and NYU.
I work with a nurse practitioner that went to Columbia and she also said go with the cheaper option because at the end of the day getting a job is all about networking. I still want to go to columbia for my own personal reasons lol but just for those that were wondering. @mma do u know if columbia is planning on switching? That's sad... pay all this money and don't pass the nclex on the first try lol .
Columbia uses Kaplan testing and I heard from current students that Kaplan is a terrible program and has many errors. ATI seems to be a better resource. Emory had a 100% passing rate last year and they switched over to ATI.
Kaplan IS terrible, unfortunately Columbia has a contract with them that isn't up yet :/ but most people that I know from the cohort ahead of me used Uworld to study for the NCLEX and everyone who used it to study passed on the first try
I was told that Columbia has like a 95% pass rate. I was also informed by a current student at UPENN that if you can't pass the exams then you should be concerned about how you are learning in class. Everything should be covered and if you're in that level of program it shouldn't be a problem to pass.

That is what I would've thought as well. Everything should be learned in the class... the other studying materials should just be additional resources
To blame it on Kaplan is passing the buck. You should have a solid base going into studying for the NCLEX.
I absolutely agree with this and I do think that Columbia provides a solid foundation, I feel very prepared for the NCLEX in the courses I have taken so far. I think the problem is that Kaplan makes these lofty promises of being the "only prep course you need to pass the NCLEX" and "guaranteed first time pass" and a lot of students get caught up in learning the Kaplan way for making decisions instead of spending that time reviewing material learned in class.
They have up a 2015 to date pass rate of 95% which they haven't updated. You can see all the pass rates for schools in NYS here. I feel that folks should have all the information before making a decision. NYS Nursing:Nursing Programs:RN NCLEX Results: 2

Mine is checked off but I may have submitted it before you guys. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.
