Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Does anyone know if we can submit an updated unofficial transcript if we completed our prereqs recently? or does it have to be official?

We actually just got an e-mail about this this morning. They said we can go ahead and upload the unofficial transcript on the application status page. It's an option in the drop down menu. They do not require official transcripts until you are accepted.

Has anyone seen how crazy long the financial aid application is? There are so many essays. I didn't realize they took such a holisitic view when assigning scholarships!

Literally!!!!

Literally!!!!

I'm out of the country atm. What essays are we talking about? What information are they asking?

It's for the scholarship. They sent a email, we have to write like 5 different essays..not long though

Hey guys, some nursing schools (ABSN/MSN) have asked me to input "Second-Bachelor's degree" and "5th year Undergraduate" when filling out the FAFSA. But I know that Columbia awards a Master's for the first half of the program, not an BSN. For people who encountered this problem, did you just send out two different 2018-2019 FAFSAs?

Yes, I also ran into this problem! You cannot create two separate FAFSAs for the same year. I called the FAFSA people yesterday to get their opinion. Basically, she suggested:

First send out the FAFSA to all schools saying 2nd Bachelors. Then wait for it to get processed and sent to schools, then make a correction saying 1st Year Graduate to all schools. (or vice versa)

Then contact all the schools which are ABSN and tell them to look at the previous version of the FAFSA because it's all documented.

Of course, this is just what one representative said to me; I'm interested to hear about any other possible solutions??

So the bio and diversity question the financial aid scholarship is asking for is kinda similar to the essays for the application-- do you think it would be okay to recycle some sentences? Who exactly reviews this-- just the FA office? admissions? faculty?

I was thinking the same thing!!! I don't think they will remember you using some of the same information though they have to read so many...

LOL Columbia told me to submit my FAFSA the other way around! They told me to first submit my FAFSA to other schools that grant you a 2nd Bachelor's, wait for the submission to go through, and then delete the schools and add in Columbia and the corrections.

Haha, maybe because it's easier for Columbia?? That their version is the most updated one? LOL
