Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Hello! I called right before Thanksgiving and they said they should be sending it out soon, possibly with 2 weeks.

Okay good to know

Hello! I'm new to the conversation but have been following this thread as I also applied for MDE for 2018. I contacted the school since I hadn't heard anything either, and this was the response just yesterday (11/29) from Amy: "Thank you for following up. The FASFA application is available, and the priority deadline is December 15th. We will be sending out information shortly about scholarships."

And the explanation for priority application, plus the URL: "Submitting your FAFSA early will give our office time to collect all the materials necessary to potentially provide you with the aid you need. You can access the application at: Home - FAFSA on the Web - Federal Student Aid "

Thank you for this information!

As a nurse who already has my BSN degree but is thinking of applying for the DNP portion, I was wondering the same thing.

We actually just had a meeting on this today- the residency is worth 5 credits per semester, so you pay tuition for those credits because you have a capstone project during your residency. So you do pay tuition that year but much less than during the rest of the program.

Can you explain more about the project please? :) Just trying to weigh the benefits of going to Columbia's program which is longer and more expensive, than attending one where I'd graduate early and start working

I don't know exactly what we do for the capstone project. But the residency year is a year where you work as an NP full time and are paid/get course credit for it at the same time. And then you complete your project based on that work. It's basically a chance to get into a workplace with Columbia's help and to get some work experience while you are supervised and have an academic advisor still.

Wow- this is great information! Did they talk about what the pay looks like for the residency year?

Thank you!

Totally depends on where you're employed for the residency. You negotiate pay with that employer, the school has nothing to do with that.

Does anyone know what the schedule is like for MDE/DNP accelerated? Is the 4th year of the program a residency with capstone based on what everyone is talking about?
