Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Yup. I know. Just wondering if Columbia takes Fall grades into consideration. I know schools, such as Vanderbilt, do not. Anything after the application deadline doesn't count.

I updated my application last year with my fall grades. I don't remember if it was required or not but I think showing you successfully completed more prerequisites could only help.

Hello everyone!

I applied to MDE/DNP (FNP) track as well.

Does anyone know how the housing works via Columbia Medical center housing?

I want to travel out of state from January to April, and I am not sure if I need to be "present" in NYC to sign any paper works?

Hello FuturePsychNP21,

How did you or any other current students find a place to live?

that is my biggest concern.

Thank you so much!!

Hi @believeinyounp, I have the same question regarding housing in the Columbia Medical Center!

Did anyone here apply to the AGPCNP program?

I believe you sign on campus housing paperwork in May (this might vary from building to building). You do need to be present but I think as long as you are back by May you should be ok.

Hi! If you live far from NYC they will prioritize you for on campus housing, most of the people I know who didn't come from New Jersey or New York (I came from California) were accepted to on campus housing. I would definitely apply for it no matter what, the application is free and if you get on campus housing you can turn it down if you decide to live elsewhere with no penalty. Also, once you have a Columbia email you can sign up for their off campus housing page to look for listings and roommates. That is where I found my current apartment. If you are coming from out of state and want to live on campus, I would recommend finding a sublet for summer so that you can look for longer term places in person once you're here.

Thank you so much for answering my questions!

In terms of applying for the on campus housing, Would I do that once I get accepted?

also could you share what it was like living on campus? Did you network with other CUMC students?

Yes you apply in March or April I believe (probably early April but my memory is fuzzy). And you find out if you are accepted early February. I actually don't live on campus, I turned down my on campus housing offer! But I have heard mixed reviews about it, many people like living on campus for the convenience but the housing is not the best from what I have heard (although finding good housing in NYC is a challenge in general). If you have more questions feel free to private message me!

Hi I also am finishing my MBA in May 2018 and was wondering more about what the admissions person was saying! I actually got waitlsited for this program last year and wanted an administrative side as well. I'm happy to hear the masters holds more weight then undergrad!

Hey Ladies & Gents

My name is Yash, and I too applied to Columbia MDE 2018 program. Super excited about this journey, praying all goes well. I definitely did terrible in my undergrad in the low 2's but that waaaaay back in 2010. Did my pre reqs, then also got my MPA at Long Island University recently in May 2017 so i definitely waived the GRE exam. I put in alot of work from 2010 to now, so hope all goes well. Even the admissions director Jose Villa told me my masters hold more weight than my bachelors. So if anyone is in my same boat with a masters, there is a great chance at getting accepted.

Waiting for any type of feedback. So far I received an email days after submitting that my application will be sent to be reviewed. That is always a positive.

PS I love this thread, been following since it started.

Hi everyone

Did anyone else receive an email saying there would be an email sent out with instructions to apply for the FAFSA and you haven't in fact seen said email yet???
