Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the second summer (i.e. last semester) of the program is like? My understanding is that in the spring we'd do our integrations with classes held online, then for the second summer, the presentation said 'class dates and times vary'. Any insight you have is appreciated. I'm an over-planner and am just curious as to what that summer entails :) Thank you!

Hey! Check out this blog post! She's a current student at Columbia and went through MDE (currently doing DNP)

Apparently it's a Work Study student who updates everything so they could just be behind on the workflow.

Thank you so much for sharing her blog! It was very informative!

That was a fantastic find...Thanks for sharing!

Hi all!

I'm very new to posting, but have found reading them so helpful! I'm applying at Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Yale, and UCLA. Right now Columbia and Johns Hopkins are my top choices. My overall GPA was 3.6, with last 60 credits at 4.0, and my pre-req GPA is 3.7 (I need to retake Statistics in January). I've volunteered as a doula and worked in healthcare IT for the last 6 years with a nursing focus, so hopefully I have a good chance!

I'm curious to hear from other folks on where else they're applying and what pros and cons you're weighing among schools.

Good luck to all!

Hi @emilyrose114 I applied to two schools: Columbia and Stony Brook. I pretty much put all of my marbles into two bags. Columbia slightly overweighs Stony Brook, however I will be happy if I get into either! My overall GPA is a 3.8 with my pre-requisites also being a 3.8 (all of my classes are up to date). I work at a School of Nursing as a research coordinator, so I'm very involved in the research world of nursing and working with underprivileged communities.

Columbia's goals really align with the work I plan to do in such an under represented community. At this point I will take any school that accepts me!

Just wanted to throw it out there again for anyone who recently joined this thread, I am currently in Columbia's MDE program and am happy to answer questions either on here or over private message :)
