Columbia ETP 2016

Hello!

I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.

Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?

I wouldn't stress out too much about getting into Columbia. I'm currently in the ETP program and it is well known that the admissions criteria are on the lax side compared with other schools. Yes they get about 800 applications for roughly 220 places but you have to take into consideration that many if not most students will choose to go elsewhere given the choice. Can't say what it will be like with the new program. One thing I have noticed is that they really like to see international experience. That said, good luck everyone!

Oaklandpoppy I am currently waiting to hear back from UCSF and Columbia, and I have my Yale interview this week, so I'm in your position. I am not stressing too much about the DNP difference yet, because there's always options to go back for another year or so of school (not ideal, but possible). But if it comes down to having to choose between an MSN and a DNP school, I will definitely have to do some research. Sorry that doesn't help much! The nurses that I have spoken to about it have told me that it's not something to be very worried about, but they also already are practicing and have more of a chance of becoming grandfathered in.

Hey guys! First time poster, long time troller. It's February 1st! Are we thinking we might hear some time before February 15th? I wasn't that nervous and now suddenly am very much so....

Hey KAH123,

The emails from Columbia said we would know "by February 15," however in past years I believe the have found out earlier. Hopefully we find out sooner! Though I wouldn't be surprised if the new DNP admission process takes longer and it's closer to the 15th.

Ok, so I checked and in 2013 they found out on feb 6th, in 2014 they found out on Feb 7th and in 2015 the found out of Feb 9th. So hopefully we find out soon!

I'm going to have to say that we may find out by the end of the week. Last year their application was due way later.

I hope you are right Esmeraldap! However, the admission process is more complicated this year I think since they have to not only determine who is accepted to the Etp program (what they determine first) but also the DNP portion (what they determine second). I was told there are three admission possibilities for me.

1. I get into the ETP and DNP program (yay!)

2. I get into the ETP but not the DNP(yay kinda)

3. I do not get into either (tears)
