Columbia ETP 2016

Published

Hello!

I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the Columbia Entry to Practice Program (among a few others) this fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.

Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?

Does anyone know the admissions rates at Columbia vs NYU?

I'm thinking you still have Rochester, NYU, and Georgetown to apply to. Their deadlines offer are soon, but those tend to offer only an Accelerated BSN.

Yeah, those only offer Accelerated BSN....I am only limited to a direct entry MSN or higher due to maxing out my undergraduate loans. I heard that't one of the major reasons Columbia changed their program to a MDE/DNP, as everyone is considered a graduate student for the FAFSA.

I've heard that Columbia has a 30% admission rate for ETP, but I have no idea if that's accurate. I'm taking my prerequisites at a community college here in NYC, and my classmates (who are mostly nursing students) have said NYU has "lax" admissions--again, no idea if that's true. But it is just an Accelerated BSN there.

Yeah, I would have tried NYU if it was direct NP program. I am just hoping for the best at Columbia, if not I guess I will reapply in the future.

Hey All!

Long time lurker first time poster:) I feel just as nervous as everyone else! I hope we find out sooner than later. I only applied to Columbia and Yale (have a interview at Yale this friday!) and Columbia is definitely my first choice. It sounds like a lot of you have gone to info sessions and I was wondering if anyone knew the admission stats for the DNP. I saw someone post that they get 600 to 800 apps and take about 200, but this is for the MSN right? I know this is all difficult due to the fact that the program just changed, but did anyone ask about how many DNP students they plan to accept?

Thanks and good luck everyone!

Also, I live walking distance from Columbia Nursing so if anyone ever has questions abut moving to the area, such as what neighborhoods are good etc., just let me know!

hi everyone!

Did anyone happen to start the fafsa? i was looking at it and noticed that it said you might want to include parent info if you are applying to schools for med or nursing ---- should we include that?

Thanks!

If you are 24 or older, there is no need to include your parents as you are considered independent no matter what, if you are younger than that then you should include them if they support you somehow.

I think it's safe to assume the old ETP stats are about the same for the new program. Vast majority seem to be applying for DNP.

Hey Oakland Poppy!

If I remember correctly, they take around 200 per class year- both those who apply for the msn and dnp at the same time and those who apply for the msn only. I think that's just cause for the first 16 months for the msn portion it's one program, then after those who are in the dnp or Ph.D. programs move on to more specialized tracks. I could be wrong though- anyone else remember what was said about this specifically?

I wrote down that the MDE portion is 15 months plus an additional summer session. Then the DNP students continue on for another 2 years (depending on the specialty) plus 1 year paid residency while you're building your dissertation.

Thanks everyone for answering. I had my interview at Yale yesterday, and generally I think the school is really good, but I still am hoping to get admission to Columbia due to the fact that it is a DNP v. NP and awards a MSN v. just a certificate in nursing. Anyone else on here also applied to Yale and Columbia? If so, any thoughts on those two schools?
