Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry

Hi,

I plan on applying for the anesthesia program at Columbia and I wanted to know how the background of those that have been accepted look like to see if I'm even competitive enough apply.

I talked to a woman in admissions this morning and she said "by this Friday for sure"! They are seemingly waiting for faculty to finalize some things.. So hopefully Friday! (Although Jose might be a more accurate source) Goodluck everyone :)

Well I certainly hope it's sooner rather than later lol. It's 12:47 am in NYC and I'm up reading through my CV and admissions essay. I can't sleep!

Well we all thought it was last week hahaha and then i called admissions and they said no, by the of this week.... So I'm hoping that's the case. They already have these decisions made after all!

does anyone else feel like today is the day due to the fact that the ED applicants got their notices on dec. 20, which was a tuesday? i am simultaneously drawn to and repelled by my computer, sometimes i close my mail program and agree not to check it until 5 PM, and then i end up back on this thread, seeing if anyone has news. i can't believe how up a height this application process has gotten me!! just thought i'd vent...

To ETP alums:

I was wondering if anyone would respond to this thread with their thoughts on the job market for working as an RN after the first year (I was accepted early decision and I hope to work as an RN and go to school for the NP component at the same time during years 2 and 3). I spent the morning calling a number of the major hospitals in the NYC area to ask them about general job prospects. I was pretty much told that most new nurse residency programs and new grad nurse positions hire through a hospital's nurse extern program (which ETP students would not be eligible for because of the timing of the program). I am very worried that I'll be stuck in a position of not being able to get a job as an RN after the first year because I dont have any experience yet.
