Columbia CRNA 2020

Nursing Students SRNA

Updated:   Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for any perspective applicants for Columbia's Anesthesia program for 2020. I submitted my application last week and wanted to hear if anyone was called for interviews yet.

My stats: ADN 3.7 BSN 4.0 CCRN, CMC, CRNI, BLS/ACLS instructor, recently promoted to unit clinician. 2.5 years of Cardiac ICU in a large level 1 teaching hospital. (of note: went to school close to 10 years and have poor grades)

Good luck to everyone!

Nope. Nothing. I’ve been checking religiously.

P.S. Everyone I know who got in to Columbia and other schools were CCRN. Are you planning on taking it soon?

Anyone got any news today?

I think they should be sending them out this week, the earliest. I recall they having interviews sorted for October.

Just got an email that my application was sent from general admission review to decision committee. Did you guys get that email too?

I received that email a few days after I submitted my application on 9/9. I think this may indicate they are still working through submitted applications and have not yet invited everyone they intend to interview.

Probably another few days.

Hmmm... has anyone gotten invited in this group?

I had two friends that applied last year:

One got flat out rejected, she received an email stating an update had been added to her application, it was a polite rejection letter. She knew her application was weak, she had only a year of ICU experience (several years as a nurse though).

My other friend received an email about 2 weeks after the application closed inviting her to interview. There was a link in the email with 4 dates. You have no control over what’s open, basically hope one of your free days is still available. Each interview day has two session times (a morning and an afternoon) 8 people in each session. They ended up adding a 5th interview day during the process because they had a lot of no shows. So they interviewed about 70 people when all was said and done.

My friend received an “update to her application” a week after the interviews were complete. She was offered a spot on the waitlist. Last years cohort had a lot of seats reserved for matriculated students so I think it was a more competitive year? Who knows.

I do know the program is not fixated on your numbers, they do carry weight and you have to meet several requirements but when they say they’re looking for a good “fit” they mean personality.

I have 5 years ICU experience. CCRN. 3.76 GPA. And unfortunately still have to take Orgo (ew).

The 2019 cohort does not have any matriculated students in the class. Our director does not do the matriculated students. Everyone applies the same way, regardless of where their prior degree is from.

Good luck!

This waiting game is agony!!! Meanwhile I'm off to Connecticut tomorrow to interview at Fairfield. Best wishes to all of you!
