Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for any perspective applicants for Columbia's Anesthesia program for 2020. I submitted my application last week and wanted to hear if anyone was called for interviews yet.

My stats: ADN 3.7 BSN 4.0 CCRN, CMC, CRNI, BLS/ACLS instructor, recently promoted to unit clinician. 2.5 years of Cardiac ICU in a large level 1 teaching hospital. (of note: went to school close to 10 years and have poor grades)

Good luck to everyone!

I am applying too!

GPA was 3.4 so that's my weakness for sure

2 years in a cardiac ICU

CCRN

Fingers crossed!

Patiently waiting and checking emails. So far I have received confirmation that my application was complete. Curious if they started giving out interview invites yet.

I also received the same email. They did start reviewing applications this week and the application is still open. It's pretty early. Just keep checking but try not to get antsy about it, at least not until September 16 when it closes.

Agreed. Once I noticed they pushed the deadline up by a month I started getting anxious. Best of luck, definitely update us if you hear anything!

I never knew they changed the date but to my understanding Columbia is transitioning to a doctorate level but that is not until 2022. When the 2020 cohort graduates they’ll be fully transitioned. They’ll take 40 applicants so there’s plenty of room. Best of luck to you.

Yeah when I started looking into applying the deadline was 10/15. 40 seats is huge in comparison to other programs, so I guess we have that going for us. Good luck as well, stay in contact!

Hey everyone, I was interested in applying to the CRNA Program, possibly next year. How did the video timed essay and taped written essay piece go. It seems really intimidating!

I will admit that Columbia's application required about 10 times as much time as other schools I applied to. The timed writing was basic, you get 10mins and the topic for me was very general. Myself and others I know that have applied wrote about 2 paragraphs and made sure to simply follow the instructions and answer the questions clearly. The video essay was definitely challenging because you only have 2.5mins to answer the question and you don't want to seem like you basically just memorized a script either. I just made sure I had a general idea of what I was going to talk about, just be yourself.

oh wow!! Were you recorded while writing your essay as well. It sounds so stressful!!

Hello everyone,

I finished my application and received the email that it passed the general admission and my application was forwarded to crna admission commitee. Anyone else got updates so far?

I remember reading this board when I was starting my journey to CRNA. I feel so accomplished to even be qualified to apply!

I received an email the first week of September stating interviews will be held the first 2 weeks in October, this was I when was still developing my materials and had not submitted the application. I applied that week and received notification a few business days later that my application went to committee for review. I haven't heard anything since then.

6 yrs ICU/1 yr Cardiac ICU in large metro teaching hospitals; 3.44 second degree Nursing GPA; CCRN; Nurse Educator; Travel RN; Organic Chemistry complete, taking Stats this semester.

Good Luck Everyone!
