Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for any perspective applicants for Columbia's Anesthesia program for 2020. I submitted my application last week and wanted to hear if anyone was called for interviews yet.
My stats: ADN 3.7 BSN 4.0 CCRN, CMC, CRNI, BLS/ACLS instructor, recently promoted to unit clinician. 2.5 years of Cardiac ICU in a large level 1 teaching hospital. (of note: went to school close to 10 years and have poor grades)
Good luck to everyone!
I had two friends that applied last year:
One got flat out rejected, she received an email stating an update had been added to her application, it was a polite rejection letter. She knew her application was weak, she had only a year of ICU experience (several years as a nurse though).
My other friend received an email about 2 weeks after the application closed inviting her to interview. There was a link in the email with 4 dates. You have no control over what’s open, basically hope one of your free days is still available. Each interview day has two session times (a morning and an afternoon) 8 people in each session. They ended up adding a 5th interview day during the process because they had a lot of no shows. So they interviewed about 70 people when all was said and done.
My friend received an “update to her application” a week after the interviews were complete. She was offered a spot on the waitlist. Last years cohort had a lot of seats reserved for matriculated students so I think it was a more competitive year? Who knows.
I do know the program is not fixated on your numbers, they do carry weight and you have to meet several requirements but when they say they’re looking for a good “fit” they mean personality.
I have 5 years ICU experience. CCRN. 3.76 GPA. And unfortunately still have to take Orgo (ew).
So I called the admissions department today and asked when we should expect to hear about interview invitations and I was given a short vague answer with a time frame of: very soon-the next couple of weeks. I was told that they are still reviewing applications. So I have no idea what to make of that...

Thank you for calling. I was checking my email the whole day today as well. October 3&4 are 2 weeks from now. I hope we can get decisions really soon, so that people who are invited have time to prepare and make arrangements. Keeping fingers crossed
My friend said she got the email inviting her to interview 12 days before the interviews started. They send everything out at once which means they’re reviewing all the applications before sending out any emails. I wouldn’t stress it, and I’d think come midweek next week they’d have decisions. Also a possibility that they move the interview dates if they’re crunched for time. ??♀️
Quick question
Dose anyone know someone who got an interview without there CCRN and they put them on the wait list for an opportunity to take it. Or pretty much everyone who got a call back for an interview has there CCRN?

I've heard usually about 150 apply, 80 get interviewed and 40 get offers!
