Columbia CRNA 2020

Nursing Students SRNA

Updated:   Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for any perspective applicants for Columbia's Anesthesia program for 2020. I submitted my application last week and wanted to hear if anyone was called for interviews yet.

My stats: ADN 3.7 BSN 4.0 CCRN, CMC, CRNI, BLS/ACLS instructor, recently promoted to unit clinician. 2.5 years of Cardiac ICU in a large level 1 teaching hospital. (of note: went to school close to 10 years and have poor grades)

Good luck to everyone!

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is still interview dates left? I kind of lost hope.....

They have morning and afternoon interview times and they had about 9 applicants in the afternoon. I’m assuming about the same number in the morning as well and each interviewee received a 20 minute slot.

Thanks for responding. So my guess is that they are finished with calling people back for interviews and the one slot that's open is probably someone that didn't want to go on the interview.

I’m not quite sure how to answer that. The thing is each program is different when selecting candidates. But if you do the math, it makes sense. 5 interview dates (and each interview date, they may interview ~18 candidates, 8-9 applicants in morning slot (8a) and 8-9 applicants at 1p slot. Our interview didn’t finish until around 5p and it started at around 12:15. They said they’re looking for 40 students and they are interviewing about 80 people.

I think it’s safe to move on mentally. They have invited everyone they are interested in by now. There are many other programs around the country that offer great clinical experiences, which is what matters when interviewing for jobs. If you really want it, you will find a way. Good luck everyone!!

So you're saying that Columbia's interview is 5 hours long? I heard very different things about their interviews. Are you a student there?

What they’re saying is that the entire interview day took 5 hours. The day began with an introduction to the program and a simulation lab tour. Then the interviews got started, where each candidate went alone and spent 20 minutes with the interview team.

Maybe the interview process started from the start (you know how companies start your interview when you have contact with HR? Maybe it’s like that, they probably want to see how you interact w/ other people and so on) but each applicant interview for 20 minutes. they talk about the school , they show you the sim lab, they feed you, that takes a while. And then interview.

This makes sense. I'm sure there are some intangibles they are measuring about your interaction with their staff and other students when they know you aren't under the gun actually being interviewed. I hope this works out! I guess once you've been invited to interview you have maybe a 40% chance of being accepted.
