Collin College ADN SPRING 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am hoping to be part of the Collin College Spring 2018 Nursing Class and I want to start a new thread where other potential students can communicate with one another. I am taking Micro this summer and plan on submitting my nursing application by the August deadline. I will be taking my PSB exam at the end of July.

Collin no longer gives potential students access to the point system used to rank students. Does anyone know what a competitive PSB score is?

I have a 3.75 for my co-requisites and I am hoping to maintain my 4.0 in my pre-requisites. Can anyone offer any insight on PSB scores?

Thanks in advance!

Maria

My insurance did not cover titers, so I had to pay out of pocket. It was just over $200 for all of them and then another $65 per heb shot (times 3 again not covered by ins) and will be another $49 for just heb b titers again (required after shot series). I started mine in May and still have 1 more shot to go.

Anylab in Mckinney off 380 will do the titers they are more expensive than a drs office but still reasonable compared to going to a direct lab like Quest. You can also break it down and do 1 at a time as you have funds just means more blood draws. I went there for my TB test since they were super close to the college. I will use them for my titers redo for Heb B since I dont want to drive an hour to my reg dr office.

I do know last fall a friend of mine knew by the official withdrawal drop date for the semester that she was accepted, she dropped all her classes before deadline. (Oct 10 I believe for us). I am hoping we know about the same time.

Hello all,

Does anyone know when they will notify us if we got accepted to the ADN program for spring 2018?

4-6 weeks by mail.

Not soon enough :( I am dying to find out!

anyone else care to shares stats while we all play the waiting game.

It's been just about 3 weeks... 1/2 way there!!

How do you guys plan on paying for the program? Do you all plan on working while in the program?

I have 2k saved up and I'm hoping I can get a loan if working on the weekends proves too much for me to handle.

My stats are 4.0/4.0 and 80's and above on the psb test. You all have awesome stats!

My intent is to apply for academic loans but I also have to work to help provide for my family. I have been trying to get a position within a hospital as a receptionist. Ideally i like experience as a patient care tech but those positions are usually given to actual nursing students. If i get accepted, i hope to be able to list that on my resume in hopes of getting a position in a hospital

I work as a PCT at Children's downtown and plan to continue working there while in school to avoid having to take out any additional loans. Having to work is the downside to waiting until you have a house and family to decide what you want to be when you grow up :)

Receptionist positions seem like they are hard to get. I've never scored an interview for one even though I have like 4 years CNA experience.

49erintx :p I totally get you , I have an 8 year old and lots of bills. You have an awesome job though! I would definitely keep working there while you are in the program. They will probably hire you as a nurse right after you graduate. You should contact the hospital HR to see if they offer tuition assistance.

You are right. I currently work Mon-fri and have been looking for a position the last 6 months in anticipation of starting nursing school. I am hoping that once i can add "nursing student" on my resume that more doors open.

They do offer tuition assistance... it's a fairly generous amount for full time employees, so I guess that's the reason for continuing to work. By my calculation it will fully cover tuition and books, so thankfully I'll have very little out of pocket.

@mavwagg once you start clinicals it should be fairly easy to get at least a unit coordinator position at one of the clinical sites.
