I have an appointment with College Network Rep. this week. I was wondering if anybody has graduated from the program. I am an LPN trying to get my RN. If anybody has any information I would greatly appreciate it.
I have been an lpn for 23 yrs. I just signed up for the college network last week. The books you buy online for cheaper are probably outdated versions. Im starting with sociology that is the book that they left me. What is your view of the program. and the clinical
I can't speak out TCN's books as I don't use them. The textbooks I've bought online are not different versions except where I have deliberately bought an outdated version because I need the text for one exam - psych, in particular, I'm thinking.

I wouldn't say that they are outdated versions they may have been publish in 2004-2006, and the ones that TCN is leaving behind are 2007-2008 pulications. But lets face it not much changes with sociology, a&p ect. All the info stays the same only the way the module flows would be changed, I'm sure TCN only makes minor changes and it not to the content of the material.
They are partnered with ISU but not excelsior, clep or dantes and that is where you test at ( and they have thier own study guides and books). I personally (can't speak for other) don't want to pay 450-500 per module when I can pass the test using other books that I can buy for pennies or a few dollars.
as a ec student let me give you some advise here and i am sure there are other students that will agree with me. don't focus your time on clinical skills before you have your nursing tests complete. the reason is these test require a lot of studying and dedication. but the main reason is that ec requires you to complete the cpne on their terms. they have check list of skills and a set of critical elements for you to know , to love and memorize. these are things you have to complete how they want or you will fail. by studying and not knowing what ec is looking for other than just brushing up on your skills for work or personal gain you are wasting time.
is anyone using the college network study guides for the nursing concepts portion? i started nrsg 1. i didn't do my homework in regards to locating the study guides elsewhere, and already signed the contract. so,i'm going to make the best of a informative decision. i plan to schedule my first exam the end of december. i have devised a plan to get my clinical experience thru each concept, with the assistance of several medical professionals in my community. i also will be traveling to ny monthly to meet with a nsg professor to assist me with my clinical experience(i have been an lpn for 13 yrs. and need a refresher in doing things the rt. way) i will be getting the clinical video atleast 4months prior to the exam and work thru the procedures with the instructor. i hope this will help. i plan on completing my app. w/ec by jan 31,2008. any advice anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.dawn

thanks for your reply. for me, i am more of a hands on learner. i am realizing the things( assessments) that i am reviewing in the essential of nsg. care: health and safety, i have forgotten. i would love to refresh myself with the assessment knowledge. i learn better when doing than just reading. i find i remember things that i have done. i would love to keep in touch with you thruout this journey. i'm sure i will need to tap into your bag of wisdom again. the brushing up on the skills would definitely be a benefit for me. i've worked in homecare for the last 6 years and feel like i have lost some of the skills that i haven't used in a long time.

A nurse that I work with bought all of the college network modules about a year ago and has yet to take her first test. We have talked and agreed to "share" her modules. From the things I am reading here that is ok....right. Until I start the nurseing modules all I have to do is pay to take the exams; right? Then enroll in EC and pay their fees. I think this will work but I wanted feed back from someone that knows more about what is actually going on.

Sure...why not? :) You are paying to purchase the modules. nothing in the contract says you can't let a friend use them (afaik). You wouldn't get the guarantee to pass thing obviously but that's no big deal. I've never heard of anyone who needed it anyway.

I am currently using College network through Excelsior College. I am on the 5 nursing Concepts test. The information is helpful in the books; however, you can buy the same books on ebay from college network alot cheaper. The study guides on ebay other than college network are really helpful also. Didn't know about ebay until after I signed in to college network and paid all the money.
