College of the Canyons Spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I am starting this thread for anyone that will be applying to the COC spring 2015 semester!

I am so nervous to start applying, and so excited at the same time!

I am curious as to what every ones GPA is that will be applying?

What kind of shoes are you guys getting?

I got the white Sketchers "no slip" tennis shoes. So comfy. Wore them all first semester and they are still in tip top shape! If you get them from uniform land by school, you will get a 10% discount. Same goes for scrubs. COC RN students get 10% off.

Hi guys!

Starting my 3rd semester at COC! It has been such a great experience! The teachers and staff are amazing! Just thought I'd cruise around the site... crazy to think I was in your shoes a year ago. It goes by sooo fast! Congrats to all who start in Spring!!

P.s to you alternates... don't give up! I finally got in after my 3rd application and twice being an alternate! Hang in there!

Good Luck!!!!

The schedule is out! I'm on Vo's team :)

Me too, with clinicals at Valley Pres on Thursday and Friday.

I am with Carrillo and Corbett. Clinicals at Holy Cross. Now is the time to figure out if I can work

Corbett is fabulous, you're going to love her. Carrillo, too! :)

I had Vo/Carrillo first semester. You guys will LOVE THEM BOTH!!!!!!!

I'm in it and so far it seems easy enough. We took pathophysiology and epidemiology the first summer. Only Epi was kind of difficult because it's a hidden math class but our professor was awesome. If you do not have a previous bachelors you need to take an additional 14 units of upper division classes as well. To be honest CSUN is disappointing and you have to figure out everything by yourself at least that has been my experience. The counselor and nursing department there are never there to answer your questions and if they are there they can never give the correct answer. Many of my classmates are only doing the required courses for the nursing major without doing the extra 14 units. You have to pick which classes to take for the 14 units. I do understand it can be expensive but the whole point it to graduate faster with your BSN so I'm following their schedule to a tee and doing my extra units on time. Everyone is different it will depend on your DPR, which they will kind of teach you how to follow the DPR. Also if you have all your GEs done or were doing CSU certification at your community college make SURE your transcripts are CSU certified when sending them. I forgot to do that and CSUN was telling me I needed to take like an extra 10 classes. The problem is that not all colleges have an articulation agreement, but if it is certified then it will suffice and you will not need any additional classes. I hope this made sense. Feel free to ask anymore questions.

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. So if I already have a bachelors degree I don't have to take an extra 14 units at CSUN? Sounds good to me! Is the workload a lot? I want to see if I would be able to work.

Yeah, from my understanding most of the upper division classes for Bachelor's are the same. So since you already took those classes you should only need the core BSN classes. Also, I guess it depends on how much you are going to work. Everyone is different. This last semester I was taking 16 units between COC and CSUN and working an average of 20 hours a week.

Hello

I'm going to be on Corbett/Carillo team with clinicals at Holy Cross. I was going through the book list and I am wondering if you guys are planning to buy or rent the books? I am considering renting since the cost is significantly less but I am wondering if anyone knows if we will continue to use the books in future semesters. Thanks!
