College of the Canyons Spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I am starting this thread for anyone that will be applying to the COC spring 2015 semester!

I am so nervous to start applying, and so excited at the same time!

I am curious as to what every ones GPA is that will be applying?

First semester always seems last to get there schedule. Don't worry you'll get it! We already got ours for 3rd semester! Crazy to think that one year has already passed!

I could only find the physical mailing address to send transcripts to CSUN. Are you apply for the concurrent enrollment program for Spring 2015? I am, too!

When did you get your schedule?

I am officially a 2nd semester student wooo hooo. We got our schedule a few weeks ago, but 1st semester gets theres about a month before school starts.

Okay, I just looked back at when I received my first semester schedule and section numbers. We received them 7/3 and classes started 8/25. First day of spring 2015 is 2/9 so I imagine you will receive them shortly. I had to call the nursing administration office two days ago about something and they were there working. So they are definitely trying to get everything to everyone.

Something I did for all of first semester was make a study plan for each class (theory, pharm, and skills lab/clinical). This helped me stay on track. Do the reading ahead of time as much as possible as there may be pre-lecture quizzes. Also, DO NO FREAK out about the dosage calculation exam. You will have plenty of time to practice. Yes, you have to pass at 100% to stay in the program, but you get three chances to take it. I was highly nervous about that, but I passed first time. You have plenty of time and the professors give you practice sheets and quizzes. Our calculation exam was during week 4. The few that did not pass the first time, went to the skills lab to remediate and passed the second time. So no worries at ALL!

I cannot stress again how thankful I am to have benn accepted in to this program. So many people at our clinical facility referred to COC students as "the smart ones" because they know how high the programs standards are. Be proud to be in the program and the key to success for me was TIME MANAGEMENT. It will be as hard as you make it. So be a little easy on yourself and organize your readings/assignments/exams the minute you get your syllabi! Good luck to you all.

I ordered mine from allheart.com. Free and easy returns but I would recommend ordering soon be some places take a while to ship.

Did anyone else apply to the COC - CSUN program? I'm wondering what the schedule is like and how challenging it is. Any info would help :)

If you are looking to purchase your uniform for Spring 2015 at COC, I used Cherokee Scrubs and Cherokee Workwear Scrubs with Free Shipping and coupon code 4LESS to get 2 shirts and 2 pants for $81 (smaller sizes are cheaper!) No sales tax and free shipping!

I did. We wouldn't start classes at CSUN until Summer 2015, is the way I understand it.

I'm in it and so far it seems easy enough. We took pathophysiology and epidemiology the first summer. Only Epi was kind of difficult because it's a hidden math class but our professor was awesome. If you do not have a previous bachelors you need to take an additional 14 units of upper division classes as well. To be honest CSUN is disappointing and you have to figure out everything by yourself at least that has been my experience. The counselor and nursing department there are never there to answer your questions and if they are there they can never give the correct answer. Many of my classmates are only doing the required courses for the nursing major without doing the extra 14 units. You have to pick which classes to take for the 14 units. I do understand it can be expensive but the whole point it to graduate faster with your BSN so I'm following their schedule to a tee and doing my extra units on time. Everyone is different it will depend on your DPR, which they will kind of teach you how to follow the DPR. Also if you have all your GEs done or were doing CSU certification at your community college make SURE your transcripts are CSU certified when sending them. I forgot to do that and CSUN was telling me I needed to take like an extra 10 classes. The problem is that not all colleges have an articulation agreement, but if it is certified then it will suffice and you will not need any additional classes. I hope this made sense. Feel free to ask anymore questions.

Have any first semester students received their schedule yet?

Section numbers were posted online yesterday on COC website. The nursing office reopened yesterday so Im sure you will be receiving your section numbers for registration this week or next.
