Anyone applying to COC Nursing program Fall 2016?
I think it is best to do one program at a time. From what was on the handout at orientation there are programs that offer classes during breaks, but you would have to be willing to go all year long to school. I would not be able to do that, or handle concurrent enrollment. I have 3 little kids at home, so I will have my hands more than enough full if I get a spot in the fall. I believe you can find a job after COC but it may not be your "dream" job.

Have you received an update on your status?? I am really hoping you get in...That is also another thing is that there will be barely any breaks leading to burnout. I guess only time will tell :)
I know I would burnout or stretch myself so thin that I wouldn't be doing home or school very well. I have only taken A&P with kids. School full time will be an adjustment for me and my kids. All my other schooling was way before babies! Well, I started out as 18, moved to 11, and now I am #7. I hope I get into the program as well!
One question...I know some of you took your fire safety class. Is that combined with CPR? How much did it cost?
I took the fire safety class at COC and it was $59. The CPR is separate and is not offered at COC so you will need to find a place to take the class. I paid $60. They were both great classes and the time went by quick.
As for the BSN programs...I am planning on doing a concurrent program. My dream is to work at a hospital, so I know I need to get my BSN. I feel it will be really hard to get a good nursing job with just an ADN unfortunately I want to get the schooling completed ASAP so I can start working! I am considering the program at Concordia...It would mean driving to Irvine once a week, but I have a couple friends who graduated from there and they said it is an amazing program and they have great jobs now (one of them works at CHLA!)
At the orientation it sounded like they would be giving us a lot more information about BSN programs throughout the first and second semester. I don't think we need to stress too much right now, especially since most we would be applying for during the second semester.
I am also unsure of what I want....I am still going back and forth between wanting to finish my BSN asap since apparantly hospitals prefer it...however, nursing school is a wholeother animal and I want to focus on this program. God forbid I fail a semester too lol!! I feel so blessed that I was accepted and I don't want to mess this up because of my impatience...My ideal future is working as a nurse with my earned adn and then getting my bsn. Is this too much to ask?
Anyway I will keep doing more research on other programs and I will keep you guys updated on what I find :)
I don't think your ideal future is too much to ask :). A lot of hospitals will hire an ADN nurse if you provide proof you are enrolled in a BSN program. Also something you or anyone can look into is getting a job as a CNA after you finish the first semester of the nursing program (if you plan to work during the program).
A lot of hospitals have specific "student nurse CNA" positions for people who finish their first semester of nursing school and having an in at a hospital is SO HUGE to getting your first RN job. A lot of hospitals would rather hire an RN they know even if they have an ADN over an outside person with a BSN.
Currently I am a CNA in skilled nursing and after I finish my first semester at COC I plan on applying to hospitals as a CNA just to get my foot in the door somewhere. :)
