Anyone applying to COC Nursing program Fall 2016?
COC does do the CSUN cohort but only for nursing students who start in spring. In addition out of the whole class only 10 are randomly selected to be a part of the CSUN cohort![]()
What I've just enrolled in is at CSU Dominguez Hills Pre-BSN Dual Enrollment program. It is open to any student enrolled in an ADN program. Starting this summer I'll be taking some of the beginning BSN classes online and will take more next summer. After my ADN is finished it will take an additional 2-3 semesters to finish the BSN (like the CSUN cohort).
There is a catch though because it sounded too good to be true: For the first two summer semesters you are not a fully enrolled student at CSUDH so you have to pay tuition fee's out of pocket (about 1500 for two 3 unit classes plus books).
I'm in a hurry to finish my bsn and move out of the area so to me the cost is worth it and the summer classes are all online which is super convenient.
This program is mentioned in the orientation materials so I'm sure there will be more info or an opportunity to ask questions on the 20th :). The application deadline to enroll isn't until the 25th anyways so there is more than enough time to research and see if this program would be the right fit.
Thank You! I will look into this :)
I noticed on the website that the program is applying for a different accreditation and is going to have a period of not being accredited. Is this going to effect us trying to get jobs or applying for advanced programs??
That's a really good question! Especially since this "gap period" would be starting January 2017. This is definitely something we should all do our personal research into and ask questions about at orientation.
I believe this accreditation they are seeking is a separate thing from the state accreditation but you make a good point about advance programs. Some BSN and MSN programs want you to go to a program that has been accredited by commissions such as NLN-CNEA or ACEN. So if we go to a program that for a period of time wasn't accredited by either of these commissions who knows what it would do to our applications for BSN and MSN programs.
hey guys i saw in the orientation folder that if you didn't attend coc this semester you have to re-register for the school.Has anyone done this yet?
Yes! Resubmitted my application to cccapply.org on Friday. Also everyone remember to start your FAFSA if you haven't yet! My email from COC said it could take 6-8 weeks to process it completely.
