Is anyone else taking college algebra (MATH 136) over the summer? I have to take it before I can start my ASN program (of which I am still waiting acceptance to). As I have looked through the textbook, I am getting more and more freaked out.
It doesn't help that I have people telling me how hard it is and how many people drop the course due to the difficulty. Anyone else in the same boat and wanting to become online study buddies?
If it helps, I'm taking it through Ivy Tech.

I'm also taking College Algebra starting on June 4th at my state university in town.. It's an accelerated course, 1 month long. What I find is very helpful is the online subscription, which is MATH XL for us. This allows us to practice at any time online. It's still going to be hard. After that, I'll be doing Statistics. :uhoh21:. Shoot me a PM for my e-mail address. I'll be glad to exchange help and info.

I am not taking it yet...but freaking out just the same! It is coming up for me. I told my husband that math is just going to get harder and I am not that good at math. He told me, "it will not get more difficult, just longer eqations." Okay, I fell for it and it eased my nerves just a bit. We also have a math lab where they help you "get it". Personally, I will not take math during an excellerated time. I am not that confident. I am taking biology this summer....and I just found out, biology is chemistry without lab. Huh?! I should have just taken chemistry. I too looked at the book and am freaking out.

I'm going to do it in a full semester as well (this fall). I haven't done math in a while and I thought doing it alone over the summer would help, but the shorter timeframe makes me nervous... good luck! :)

I'm not great at math. I struggled to maintain As and Bs in high school Algebra. I ended college algebra with an A-. I don't know how the math program at your college works, but mine was very helpful! It was a computer course. All of the homework, quizzes and tests were on an online program called MyMathLab. They provided video examples, walk throughs and help me solves. Also, the math lab at school had tutors available at any time. I too was freaked out. I just dug down deep and got through it. Attend all the lectures (if it's not online). Go to lab hours if you need to. And study, study, study, for the tests! If you do take advantage of all the study aids, you should be great. You can do this! Good luck!

I did College Algebra and made a B. We used a computer program called Aleks.
We'll use MyMathLab also. Which I have used before and really like. I do know that the textbook we are using is used for at least 2 classes so maybe the part that is freaking me out won't even be covered!
Thanks everyone!

I took the 136 last semester. I kinda struggled with it...math isn't my strongest subject, but somehow I managed to get a B in the class. My only advice is don't get behind on the mathlab homework and quizes. As far as the book, we went through ch. 1-6 then skipped to ch.12. If there is anything I can do to help just shout at me :)
Thanks lilboop! I will gladly take you up on that if I need help.
Mymathlab is excellent. As long as you put in the time to practice. You will be fine.

I'm not a big math fan, but I didn't struggle too much in the class. Algebra is just a puzzle...learn how to do it, and then it's routine...same thing, different numbers.
Geometry is what kicks my booty. My brain isn't built for it.

It is alittle more difficult than 043, but if you did well in 043, you should do okay with 136. Of course, I think it depends on the professor you have. The one I had was very helpful. If it weren't for her, I don't know if I would have done so well. My adice is practice makes perfect:) Goodluck!!
