  1. Hey all. My fiance is at Ft Campbell, and I will be waiting til we PCS next year before starting my Rn-BSN program. I am figuring it will be about 2 years and am definitely planning on doing it all in one spot! I am finishing Excelsior's ADN program by the end of this year. Good luck everyone!
  2. I am hoping to have a CPNE date by the end of the year, which will give me about 4 months to study. Depending on my work schedule, I will be able to put in 2-8 hours per day. That is a big difference, but I commute to work 12 hr nights.. so those days I will not be doing much... I homeschool two boys other days, but then some days I am off and the boys will be with their dad. I am not counting on any spare time, to say the least. :)
  3. I would think that like TheCommuter says having kids would only enhance your practice, but you are well-trained for the job. :) If you are deeply drawn to the field, your practice will also be enhanced... go for it!
  4. Nashville is a great city. I am an LPN and am starting to work towards my RN this fall - lots of opportunity for work, school, and everything else in between. I also have two boys - there's great things for kids to do, and we've met a lot of really awesome and supportive friends. I transferred my license from NY and the TN board is really helpful. What else.. we've only been here 2 years, but love it here. PM me if you need! I am looking at going back to work PT as an LPN next summer or fall while I finish school. I haven't been working, but I've been volunteering at Vandy Childrens for the last year and everyone I've met there is also really friendly and helpful. The Vanderbilt community is HUGE, but I am sure if you emailed them with questions they would help you. Good luck! I haven't met anyone who doesn't like it here! :)
  5. General psych, music appreciation, Eng 101, remedial math, on top of a Certified Personal Trainer course...alone with 2 kids.. wish me luck!
  6. OH wow.. that's what Im worried about - not getting in anywhere due to so many applicants! Guess I'll just start applying eeevvveerywhere! Glad to hear you've enjoyed your time at Motlow so far. :)
  7. Oh funny, I am starting pre-reqs this fall at Nashville State; we are also homeschoolers (3 and 6 yo boys); and me going back to school was also a dream turned necessity - my husband will have to work/live out of town unless I can finish school and go back to work. He is in Africa currently, and we miss him a whole bunch. I must. Do. This. Good luck to you!! And keep us posted! I'd love to hear more about your experience at Motlow...as I get my ADN apps together this fall... :)
  8. This is mine. I love it..because I can wash and sanitize it! Women's Ironman Sleek Watch - Black/ Purple : Target
  9. I'm tempted to buy a second one.. only because I see some really great deals on Craigslist!
  10. Congrats on the new job! My first day as an LPN in LTC... biggest help: note pad, resident list/report sheet, drug book, list of phone numbers. The biggest problem I ran into, was leaving enough time to chart at the end of shift. Making notes and keeping up with your charting will really help. Good luck! :)
  11. Love those! The guy who does the Podmedic also does other podcasts too - they're all great, free, and on iTunes. :)
  12. Ditto! We had plenty of floor time and opportunity in our 2-year RPN program as well. I was not nervous over using my skills. SKILLZ! lol
  13. I agree with the above folks too. It's a lot of info, but the concepts are not difficult. Just a lot to memorize. So, I would start memorizing! I tutored the course to LPN students and I found the following helped: start basic. Look at major systems and the function of each. understand major parts. Find definitions, videos and pictures on the net. Also, the terminology is often a pretty scary component. However, if (like the abv poster suggests) if you know what the pre and suffixes mean, you can figure it all out. Above all, you really need to become aware of what works best for you.. verbalizing the stuff out loud, with a friend? The coloring book? Post-it notes all over your house? Good luck!
  14. I'm going to do it in a full semester as well (this fall). I haven't done math in a while and I thought doing it alone over the summer would help, but the shorter timeframe makes me nervous... good luck! :)
  15. Hi everyone! I have been on and off of this site for years... definitely can't get away... :) I've held an LPN license for about 7 years but only worked one, as I've been at home raising two boys. I tried to do EC's online program while at home, but found it really difficult with no spouse or family in town, or concurrent experience to apply it to.. so, this fall I will be starting more pre-req's for an RN program (most of mine don't count because I did my LPN program in Canada a decade ago)... and am really really stoked. Like really. :) Anyone else in pre-nursing in the area?
