Coffee Addiction

Is this profession notorious for being coffee addicts?

In one hospital I've worked in, it certainly seemed that way- an RN walked in with a Slurpee size cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee and I commented on it. She replied that when she orders an XL cup from them, she has to direct the employees to where they keep those cups. As she's sipping away, she's describing to me how she can't see out of her left eye just yet and the left side of her face is numb.

Then at another hospital, I started brewing coffee and there was NO one to share the pot with. Everyone attested to being caffeine free!

I have a serious mountain dew addiction. Its a problem. I keep trying to stop, but I am always tired and I can't get past the withdrawal migraines.

A year or so ago, I took my son to an ER for a really serious asthma flare. Our room was right outside the central station area. I remember making note of the attending saying to a nurse, "Oh what? you're tired? Here, come here. Look, in this drawer I keep 5 hr energy, a couple Red Bulls, Mountain Dews and caffienated jelly beans. I can't make it without caffienated jellybeans."

I felt slightly concerned at the amount of time our physician may have been awake at that point, but what can I say about it, I have a caffiene problem too:)

A couple weeks ago I was reading an article on the health risks of inhalable caffiene. The only thing I took away from that article was the question "Inhalable caffiene? Where is it? How can I get some?" lol:)

I thought the same thing lol! apparently its only in a few states...

I do have a Sub-lingual energy spray that i bought at the campus book store.. its quite awesome, kicks in in about 30 seconds but it tastes like cough syrup lol

I work nights and almost no one ever drinks coffee. I rarely see it. See it on day shift all the time.

I'm another "no caffeine" nurse. I really hate the taste of coffee, can't justify the calories in soft drinks, so I drink a lot of water. I have always been on the high energy side, so caffeine gives me a jolt that I don't care for, and if I have any after 1400, I can't sleep. Since I like water, it makes it an easy choice not to caffeinate my self :)

Love....me...some....coffee....does....not.....love.....me. :(

I adore coffee. It's one of the bright spots in my life to enjoy a perfect cuppa Joe.

But, have recently switched to decaf. It's just o.k.

It's like switching from a PC to Apple. It's just o.k. and not in love with the change. But, had to do so out of necessity.

I can't imagine life without caffeine.......the times I've had to be NPO for a morning surgery, my head hurt so much by the time I came out of PACU that I was literally begging the nurses for a cup of coffee, because fentanyl doesn't even touch caffeine-withdrawal headaches! :(

That's exactly what scares me from drinking coffee regularly. I don't want to be in the position where I'm miserable if I had to do without. I've heard people mention that when you go on vacation (to somewhere remote), every morning is occupied by "the hunt"

Dunkin donuts iced coffee year round for this gal...

Specializes in u name it.

My husband always has a fresh pot of stove top percolated coffee waiting for me when I get up at 4pm..(I work nights). It is a hot, strong cup of love that we share together..he at the end of his day's work and me at the beginning of mine. It has been our longstanding routine and it is totally delightful.

I dont drink caffiene at work. I maybe will have a sonic drink every so often.

My coffee habits change every few months and I rotate through my favorite ways to make it and/or favorite places to get it. Right now I am loving Mcdonalds Caramel Frapps.....they are more like a dessert than coffee. My other favorite is Dunkin Donuts coffee with extra cream and coconut flavoring yummm! And at home right now I am addicted to my new Kuering...Donut shop medium roast with almond joy creamer. I pray that one day I can find a job...but especially one where everyone loves coffee :D :D

I went through phases in nursing school where I would drink coffee/iced coffee every day. Had to have it or I got really bad headaches. I didn't like being dependent on it. I got really sick with a bug and the idea of coffee sounded horrible. So when I recovered I pretty much stayed away from it. I might have had a small cup once every other week or even once a month, but it didn't taste as good anymore. Then I got pregnant and cut it out completely, although I do still have a caffeinated soda or hot chocolate occasionally. No more coffee for me though.

when i was younger and prettier and getting asked to work double shifts, if i had a can of coke for lunch i was good til midnight...and actually wouldn't sleep well then. decaf for me. i can't even eat coffee ice cream without being sleepless. when the dunkin donuts wench gives me real coffee by mistake i shake andtalksofast so much you'd think i was withdrawing from something serious.
