U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows the response time for CNR 2015. The deadline was oct 17, 2014. Im just too anxious to know if i got into school. This is for the 2nd degree program ( college of new rochelle)

Thanks

I have been emailing someone and she actually told me by email that i got in. Try calling, they might not update it for a while.

Congrats sweetdream! I got in for the accelerated program summer 2015!!! I actually got a response when I called but it doesn't show up on the application status yet, so it seems it takes a while for them to update the information. I also got into LIU's accelerated program this summer so I need to make a decision by next week...I'm leaning towards CNR although LIU is offering a lil scholarship which can help with the tuition a bit. For all of you who are in the program, any words of advice??? :) thanks in advance!!!

I meant summer sorry, I keep forgetting it starts in the summer.

SweetDream: We'll be in the same class...look forward to meeting you. :) Did you get your acceptance in mail yet and have they updated the status on the application site?

It's still not updated and as of last thursday, the package wasn't mailed out yet. Did you file for financial aid yet?

I did file for financial aid but because it's a second degree, I don't qualify for pell or tap. However, LIU offered me a decent scholarship which will help a bit in tuition but CNR is my preferred choice and I'm hoping to get a scholarship from them too. I have to make a decision to LIU next week so I'm hoping I can get information from CNR soon in regards to financial aid.

Thursday was when I learned of my acceptance to CNR too :)

I'm a current CNR student. I think the program is great, though it is very difficult (as all BSN programs are). I like the clinical affiliations (I'm currently at Montefiore), and you generally get your choice for clinical location (not sure how it works at LIU). I also work at NYP, and there seems to be a decent number of CNR grads there. Certain classes, like transcultural nursing, psychosocial nursing, and research have an online section, which I like, as that's less time spent sitting in class (like some of my classmates go from clinical 7am-4pm then back to school for class from 5-7 or 8, which I would hate). Some people prefer the in-class section, so you can pick what works best for you.

LIU is also a great program (though I've heard lots of complaints, I've talked to people that actually graduated from it and are practicing RNs and they felt well prepared).

I'd probably go with the school closest to me, as well as the better financial package.

Hello! Thanks for sharing.

Did you get a lot of financial aid? What is your schedule like? Do you live close by? Do you get regular holidays off?

Thanks for the insight JRJohnson. How far along are you in the program? I live in Nassau county, Long Island and will be commuting so the distance to both schools is equivalent, although the traffic going to Brooklyn can be horrific on many occasions, so I give the commute to CNR an edge. Do you know if any of the hospital for clinicals CNR offers is in Queens/Long island? Also, are you in the second degree accelerated program? I'm a lil confused with the tuition, it says $696 per credit for 2nd degree and RN-BSN students but also have a per semester tuition that is $15,600 per semester, so I'm not sure which one it is.

I'm currently in my second semester (Nursing II), and I'm in the second degree/traditional program, not the accelerated. For the tuition, RN-BSN and second degree students can complete their programs part time, and would therefore be charged the per credit rate that you see. Full time students (which would also include the accelerated students) would be charged the per semester tuition.

I also live in Nassau. The commute is ok, there is traffic early in the morning, and if your class ends around rush hour, there will be a lot of traffic going back as well. Not as bad as it would be going to Brooklyn though (I did pre-reqs at City Tech, which is near LIU, so I've experienced both). Also, parking can be somewhat of a hassle. The best thing to do is either come early (before 9am, though you won't have a choice since some classes start at 8 or 8:30, which is great for parking) or time it for when classes get out (if you have class at 10:30, get there by 10). The parking lots fill up, and street parking immediately around the school is also gone, but you can still find parking, you'll just have to walk. For afternoon classes, you won't have a problem with parking at all.

For the final semester of the program, where you do the preceptorship (I believe that is in the Leadership course), you can choose a hospital in Long Island. I believe LIJ, Winthrop, and St. Francis are options. Otherwise, the hospitals are pretty much in Westchester (White Plains Hospital, Westchester Med Center, Blythedale Children's, NY Presbyterian-Westchester for psych), the Bronx (Montefiore-Moses and Montefiore-Einstein, Bronx VA), and Manhattan (NYP-Columbia). The majority of students live in Westchester and the Bronx, so White Plains seems to be the popular option.

We all get off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break/Easter, etc. I'm not sure of what your schedule will be like over the summer. There was a student in the accelerated program that used to post here, and I believe she said she was in class from 8:30am-5pm, not sure how many days a week though.

Thanks for the parking tips, I'm sure it is still easier to find parking at CNR than it is around LIU. From what I read, I believe summer classes are Mon-Thurs from 8am till around 6pm.
