I was just reading on the CNN website about a woman in GA who cant find a nurse job down there. She stated it is because of the economy. I thought this was supposed to be a recession proof career. Is this the case all over GA? My goodness we are really in trouble in this country!

Hi,
Do you have a link to the article? I wonder if she's waiting for the "perfect job?"

There is always more to every story than what is printed.
1. Is she an RN, LPN or a CNA even?
2. What is her past work history?
3. Is she looking for a specific job and won't settle for anything less?
4. Is she looking to work only days for some reasone?
I'm sure we can come up with many more questions.
As of today we've got 8 openings in our schedule, in just one unit, and if you look through the want adds, there are tons of nurse positions open in Atlanta alone then add all the outlying hospitals. Sometiems it does take persistance for new grads to get through the beurocratic stuff and get a job. But they are there.
Ok. I thought to myself this story sounded fishy cause if you cant get anything in ATL theres Savannah, Gastonia etc... I think this woman may have lied and im glad I wasnt the only one thinking this!
It doesn't even seem like she is a new grad, wouldn't she have mentioned that? She probably needs a specific shift- with kids and other responsibilities (wedding on the horizon etc) she probably can't just pick up and move.
Perhaps she is burnt out? Red Lobster only pays minimum wage right?

First of all she is not a RN or LPN...she is not being truthful and forthcoming. She is claiming that she had to sell furniture, clothes, memontos to pay rent? Oh come on, give me a break. I am apalled that CNN didn't verify first that she was actually is an RN or LPN before publishing this. We. the Excelsior graduates of GA are already in the national spotlight, but this makes us look really bad and uneducated.

I'm with you guys. I think they just found someone to put into their story. She was probably waiting on someone at Red Lobster, and was going on about how she was a nurse, and blah blah. I mean, all over the U.S., from my research, there are many nursing jobs, at all levels.
This story is not even about her, but more about the same ole stuff, we've been hearing about the economy in general. When I clicked on the link, I was hoping to learn more about her story, not just a paragraph. Sometimes news editors find ways of capturing our attention with headlines, and with Nursing being a career field that remains steady and growing, they had to use that header.
