I wish you the best! I'm in the same boat as you. I have to take mine next month and my class is awful! Let me know how it goes. Just relax and go to sleep early and just do your best, that's all you can do. Remember no matter what patient saftey! (before assisting to ambulate make sure client has nonskid shoes on, etc.)
Dignity ---keep the person covered
Infection Control ---wash hands, wear gloves, PPE
Safety ---check the persons wristband, have the person wear non skid shoes, lower the bed
Communication ---introduce yourself, explain what you are doing, report
Independence ---ask the person to do as much as they can
Privacy ---pull the curtain, knock on the door
OFFER WATER! Do not forget that at some point during your visit with the invisible pt you MUST offer water. I'm a pretty smart person and I aced the exam but I failed the clinical part because they had the test room set up as one room. But I had to pretend there were two patient beds. Well I forgot that and just treated it like a one patient room and forgot to draw the curtain every time. I just made sure the door was closed. I also forgot to offer water. Needless to say I'm an LPN and an RN student now so eventually I passed it the second time. I'll never forget it now though. WATER AND CURTAINS!
I just took (and passed easily) my test last week. I was super nervous, but now looking back I think, THAT was what I was nervous about?? It is way easier than you are anticipating. I don't know which state you are in, but for Prometric tests there is a checklist on their site that states exactly what the RN administering the test is looking for for each skill. I printed it out and it was a huge help while practicing. Check to see if your state has it (it should). I don't know if the RN testing you will help you relax, it depends greatly on their personality. They are not suppose to speak to you at all (mine didn't, she was stone cold) during the test. But I have read stories on here of people saying their tester was helping them, or easing their nerves. It's 50/50 who you'll get. As long as you practice, practice, practice, you will be fine. You'll be okay if you prepare yourself. Keep us posted! Best of luck :)
I'm so afraid I'll be so nervous I will forget everything! My CNA class really sucked, the instructors could never agree on anything and always gave conflicting information. I just feel so unpreparedDo the evaluators do anything to try to get people to relax or is it going to be a really rough 30 minutes?
How did you do on the exam?
