Things that old people have in common

What are some things you've observed about your residents that make you laugh because they're ALL the same way? Mine are:

They can't live without tissues. You take their clothes off at the end of the night and tissues come flying out of the sleeves. You can't take them to the dining room without putting the box of tissues in their lap before you head out, or they freak. They use 3 tissues out of a new box and start to get worried they might run out so they put the call bell on to request another box.

They want to wear the same clothes every day. You have to sneak stuff into the laundry because every night it's "I can wear that tomorrow" even though they've been wearing it for 3 days. When you clean out a resident's closet you run into tons of items you've never laid eyes on before because they might have a wardrobe bursting with clothes but they rotate the same 3 outfits all the time.

Sugar-Free Werther's... they all have a stash.

lol you are so right about the tissue. Here are three of mine one they dont want to take there clothes to the wash room because they want come back and clothes dont get dirty from just sitting on your butt all day. two make sure you turn off all the lights because the bill will be so high that even the people next door would be c/o. last one I dont have a dime in my pocket to go down there and eat but I'am so hungry will you see if they will let me pay for it when I can I will help them with what ever I can. LOL there are many these are all I can think of .

Yes! LOL you just described many of my residents but one in particular stood out with this one. This one resident I had would worry all night if she didn't have a fresh box of tissues. She would put the call light on as soon as she was down to her last 4 tissues. Tissues were everywhere! They were in her bed, her shoes, on the floor! Man they love those tissues.

Yes, I also agree that they love to where the same clothes over and over. What isn't a big deal to us is a big deal to them. Tissues, food, medicine and clothes are an important part of their day.

Patients - experienced ones in the nursing home - yes they do have senority and they are the customer. Yes they do not want to be bothered - and yes in the Nursing Home they all know they have dementia. depending on how they wish to use it at the time. So cutie don't forget to this & that the way I want it, I am so thankful for your help and yes if you don't it the way I like it - I will not complain to the nurse. I will if I just happen to feel like it make your life miserable just because I have nothing else to do and since it is so boring hear watch you and see how you react. HA HA HA - The laugh is on us sometimes.

I do however stay firm on old ladies that like to trip, hit and scratch other old ladies that like to jump line at the beauty shop.

We have 2 LOLs that have become best friends and always sit together by the window. Today one of them seemed very quiet/depressed and was in her room fiddling with stuff so I took her out to the window to see her friend. Turns out, they were not speaking to each other today! They have Alzheimer's, so neither of them could remember what they fought about, but they didn't care... they just knew they were mad at each other. So I gave them both ice cream and put them to bed early. They'll be friends again tomorrow.

Saying the same thing everyday has got to be my favorite.
