Things That Burn Your ***
When nurses dont listen to what you have to say, even when important. Aids who do nothing but complain, and people who dont give proper mouth care..yuck so much more, such little energy right now.

A Patient Made Me Cry Today
we are meant to love, and be loved. that person needed to know that someone cared about him. you dont have to be a nurse to make a difference in someones life, its human nature to reach out and comfort someone in time of need. i believe that people come into our life for a reason, she was there to care because he needed her. i would by all means want someone with me when im dying, i wouldnt care if it were a stranger. life is crazy and so much more than what we think.just my thoughts

My patient fell!! now in hospital...need advice
It could of been anything, fragile bones break very easily. Maybe when someone tried to lift her by the arm first ,it could of happened then too. Not to mention when you see someone start to fall, you grab whatever you can by instinct. I know you are stressing, but these things happen and im sure they realize this too. Its not like their going to fire you. Things happen. just learn from it, because it can happen to anyone, no one is perfect. And im sure she will be just fine. Just be glad it wasnt her hip...very glad. She will make her way back home and heal from there.

What's the reason for a RN to be snippy to a new post op pt. ?
im not a nurse yet. but i think if it were my mother, i would of nipped it in the butt real quick. as someone who is just the general public. when going to a hospital and your not a nit picking crazy nut house family, we expect some common deciency. its a chair, get one and shush it. i think the whole pain thing could of been handled in a better way simply by saying " unfort you just had a pill and we cant give anything yet" something along those lines. i think it was the sense of disregard that was dis-hearting. sure attack and say i dont know what im talking about because i dont work as a nurse, but i think people should at least appreciate the patients that are nice. i can remember when my sister was having her baby. she was 18 and she was ready to go, so she goes to the hospital etc and shes in obvous pain, she has had no pain meds at this point. well she was crying, i would of too, and im sure many women do. this nurse tells my sister " if you dont stop that crying, your mother isnt coming in" are you kidding me! i would of told her to be gone! i mean come on, there is a border between someone takin control of a situation and being down right nasty. anyways this is just my opnion. i hope your mother is ok.

death..

Do you have a routine with your patients/residents?
I think it depends where you work. You will get down your residents routine, Your time managment will come with it. Since everyone is different you really have to go by that, I know at work who needs to get ready for bed first etc and i go around that. Its just a matter of time. good luck with the new job!!!

Feeling very discouraged right now. Advice please?
oh! you are doing just fine!!! i was in the same boat you were in, when i took my class i had no experience..nadda! lol i think back when doing my clinicals and i just lauph at myself. i was doing things that were so complicated, brushing teeth, peri-care, transfering, feedings and i thought i was a hot mess, 3 girls in a room figuring out how we should have someone brush their teeth haha oh my. i know where you are coming from, many of these things you get from expierence, nerves get you every time. hun i still spill things on people when feeding. accidents happen, and you will learn this and what accidents matter.i dont get why your instructor would tell you guys to transfer someone, then turn around and yell at you, that is redicules and i wouldnt take it to heart. i can remember the first time i had my own wing. i was nearly in tears, i felt like i couldnt get anything done, and no one was working with me! my first shower too, we didnt do that in clinicals so when i had to give one..it was all on me. guess what? we did just fine! you will find out the tricks of the trade. in the mean time, quit being so hard on yourself! serously! the things you are worried about, are things that come with time.and it comes quit quickly, it will be like second nature. when you are on your own, you will run into different things that you have to handle like falls, enjuries, moans and groans and daily life. next time you feel insecure, just say to yourself, this is not a big deal i can handle this. you will find the more confidence and experence you have, the one thing that was so scary is now a piece of cake! just keep your cool and dont worry so much! and the other classmate that told you to transfer someone, doesnt sound to expiernced herself. we all start from somewhere. you will also get more comfortable with talking with the residents etc and the fact that the instructor threatened to kick you out, is down right stupid! hang in there!!! this is really just the first step.you will get it real quick and you will be ready for the next challange. you want to be a nurse? well you do just that. best wishes ~lissa

Burned Out and Breaking Down
woah! i think we work the same place or something! i work every weekend as well, i know the feeling of frustration, where you just want to cry and get angry. and of course working the weekend their isnt a nurse there either ha? one of my jobs is a nut house to say the least. it is consedered "asisted living" but we have some very heavy cares. imagine 61 apt... you have to at least 5 room cleans 2 showers a shift. make, serve, clean up, after meals (yes serve restraunt style) mop kitchen etc clean all the bathrooms and do cares. mind you this is a 8 hour shift, and keep tabs on everyone. lol and on a good day there are 2 med passers and 3 aids, so really 3 aids do everything. and we hear things like "if "we" "have to hire a part time cook and housekeeper someone is going to lose their job" ***! mm i am pretty much everything there, housekeeper, janitor, cook, dishwasher, aid, soon to be med passer. i am truely underpaid lol so trust me i know the pain! and i am by no means putting your situation down, i feel awful that you were so upset, esp with the stress of school. since i only work weekends i know how 3 days can feel like a week when everything is going wrong and i work 3-11's. i would keep bringing up the fact to you mngr's that you also need more coverage. you know what they say. "the squeeky wheel gets the oil" . i hope everything gets better, and when you get there just tell yourself, this is only for 2 days and this isnt forever. best wishes - lissa

Everyone has a 4.0 GPA!!
Really, why do you even care what her g.p.a is. I don't like tudes that come across as someone thinking they are superior. Why not be nice and show her the ropes, my word.

First Day of Clinicals was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
thats great that you had such a good day! you will meet some of the funniest, weirdest, loudest, angry, sweetest, amazing type of people, doing this kind of work. it open's your eyes to many things. get used to those soiled clothes and komod's filled with gifts lol oh the excitment!!! haha until the real work begins and you realize you are responsible for those 8-10 residents you will be caring for. soon they wont be some cute lil old person who says funny things and you get to hang out with, its oh crap! i still have to toilet 4 other people!!! lol not to be a negative nelly. usually depend/underwear/brief is a better word rather than diaper. i would also be very careful with cell phones on the floor. esp if your taking pictures of residents. that can quickly be turned against you, its a privacy thing and can be considered abuse. its one thing if it is a camara that the home uses for activities and such, but they dont know what your going to do with such pictures etc. i cant tell you how many people i wish i had a picture of, just to remember them, but i cannot take them myself. its a vulnerable adult delio law. anyways! best of luck to you on your new adventure!!!

My CNA clinical exam is this weekend and I'm FREAKING OUT!
Just remember to the first main steps, washing hands, privacy, infection control, pulse etc. You will do fine. You remember more than you think you do. Just look over your book, ask a classmate to study and practice with. The test really isnt that bad, its fast too. I promise! lol and if by some small chance you dont pass...its not the end of the world!! you can take it again!!! best wishes and let us know how it goes!! Also, that barbie idea is really cute and creative!

how many cna's plan to continue their education?
Im a cna doing my pre-reqs for nursing school. I decided against the lpn route. You have to take the same pre-classes for lpn as you do for nursing school. I figure why give myself more work than i have too? if i end up in the same place lol
