  1. Congratulations!! What a great feeling
  2. As a grad of 2012 Cookman is steep, but there are waay many more scholarships that you can apply for and some are Christian based, b/c the school is based on Methodist theology. You don't have to be Methodist or religious to attend tho. Look at One Stop Career Center also for scholarship, look at scholarships based on the County in which you live, there is a Flagler County retired nurses scholarship, there is a scholarship that took care of my summer Biology class (which I took at Daytona State), that is a religious based scholarship. Be courteous and receptive to financial aid folk and know the names of people who are on scholarship committees. All of us passed our boards on 1st try with exception of many 2-3, but then they passed. Cookman will work you, but you will know your stuff!
  3. I did find info and compiled a listing, but dunno how to make it "graphically pleasing"
  4. Hi all, I am a junior in a BSN prgm and my Med/Surg instructor has told me it be a good idea to make a list of all those wonderful "signs" that are S&S of certain disease processes. I was hoping that there is a site or someone who might know about this info. If, not thanks anyway I have started making up a sheet, but with all the other stuff I have to keep up with, n e help would be appreciated
  5. Thanks for all the great responses and I did call them and tell them that they can 'investigate' the complaint to their hearts delight, I, however, expect my pay. They said it would happen. The person who fired me said that she would speak to me in person, about the negative reviews, but I was soo hurt by what happened and felt that it would be just a lie, I asked to speak to the owner. This is an independently owned franchise. This guys says, well "she's the coordinator and if she says u go..." in so many words. I think maybe there was a personal axe to grind. I dunno, but I kinda put it behind me. I think that going forward I will ask the ppl when I leave my shift, if they are satisfied with the care that I am giving them instead of relying on the appreciative smiles I get. I am concerned about them giving a negative reference also. I just want to put it all behind me. Thanks all.
  6. I am a CNA and work for a company that provides Senior Nursing Care.. I am an independant contractor. You prob already know who the employer is. My experience with them has been positive in that they have never complained about my work performance and have called me constantly for jobs. I had to tell themn that I didn't want to work any "ongoing" jobs b/c I wanted to enjoy my summer. but they would still call and ask me. So.. today I had a job that was 2 pts. and 1 had a cath, pwb and was "needy". Understandable, this person is upper 80's and depressed. His wife is independant and needed minimal assistance. Needless to say I bathed the man, the wife fixed his meals, I helped her a bit with it. Groomed his hair, assisted him with change of clothes, toileting.. etc. you get the pic. I left cleaned up everything and we bid each other farewell. He even told me good luck with my nursing career. The agency came back and told me that they were dissastified with my performance and were not going to pay me. They then went on to say that ALL my reviews have been extremely negative. So they were terminating me. HUH? I was absolutely shocked. I worked for them about 3 mos and did 1 case last year. In most of my cases the ppl asked if I would come back. The whole "not going to pay me" has got me more than hott! I will wait to see if they do, but I am totally dismayed by the whole thing and wondering why did they ask, even sometimes plead with me to take cases if my reviews were all negative? The employer and I had a good repoire, they are all women, even singing my name and smiling brightly when I walked in the office.:bowingpur I think it's a good idea to ask for performance reviews in writing if its not stipulated up front. Thanks for listening.
  7. In a nutshell, been on wait list for a year now. GPA is mediocre at 2.89 ( I am a transfer student and 44 yrs old), my GPA at my current school is 3.45, but the dep't takes the cumulative gpa. I am thinking about Radiology tech, but also a lil hesistant b/c I have taken so many courses toward the Nursing, which are not required for the Rad tech and I wanted to get into the Nurse pgrm. BUT, I also need to work, full time. I can only work a lil now, so as myPell and other benefits (medicaid, FS) dont start gettin tampered with. I know its pretty much my call, but wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts to share.. Thanks all
  8. Hi All Im a CNA student and have to give a presentation on Scleroderma Part of the project is to discuss how to administer care to a patient with Scleroderma. Scleroderma can be systemic or localized. Systemic being more serious as it affects the organs. Localized is pretty much the hardening of the skin , joints.. Scleroderma is an autoimmune disorder that causes hardening of joints and connective tissue. For the systemic kind, some of the organs affected are lungs, heart, digestive. So.. they could have GERD, pulmonary hypertension, edema.. etc.. I know it's a lot to think about, but I am just trying to see if anyone has any ideas. Let's just say, as an example if they suffered from GERD b/c that is a side symptom, I would keep them in Semi-Fowlers position in the bed, to prevent the reflux. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  9. Hi, I hope you found some info on where to take nite or wknd classes. I am currently taking classes (PCA) at DBCC which is now DBS college. There is no campus in Orlando, but 1 in New Smyrna, Deland, Palm Coast and Daytona. There will be a fall class, maybe in the evening. I don't know if you are eligible, but through community colleges you can join one of those "Fresh Start" programs so you can possibly have your children in daycare. Or through CCRN (Childcare resource network) for them. I know one of your children is autistic. Good Luck to you:up: Sheri:p
  10. I took 3 classes during the summer session too. Wont do that again. One of em was A&P2. Just finished my 5th Unit exam on the Endocrine and Reproductive Systems.. It was a lil tough but I think I pulled through. Some of the essay questions sometime get me b/c I can't always explain something from start to finish. Like compare/contrast Spermatogenosis with oogenesis. The Endocrine system was a bit hairy too.. with all the hormones and target cells.. etc.. But my final is on Monday and my prof. is the same one as A&P1. She has told us that the Final is everything from the 4 unit exams which we keep, correct and do an exam analysis on. Can't wait to finish up with this tho. Then onto Microbiology, College Algeb & Psychology. :clown:
  11. Hi all I start A&P2 in June, I took A&P 1 and got a B+. It was a tough course, but I enjoyed it.. It's amazing how all the things that I learned now become a bit more "real" when I watch medical shows, etc.. I love Dr. G medical examiner, she had a case where a retarded man died suddenly at home with his sister present. He was eating a sandwich at the time. They thought he choked. He didn't and they couldn't figure out what happened, turned out his spinal canal was actually growing down into his Foramen magnum and it caused death. I have same teacher for A&P2 and hopefully same book. Good Luck to ALL!
