Ha ha...I live like 7 minutes away. So many people really commute though! Like from 45 minutes to an hour each day!

Golisano Childrens Hospital in Syracuse?
I could be a bit of an optimist, but I feel like our city is really trying to be better. Winter still sucks though. Not going to lie. Last winter was brutal! Our current CNO is awesome and humble and you can tell she truly cares about her nursing staff. Great time to be at Upstate. í ½í¹‚

Golisano Childrens Hospital in Syracuse?
Hi There, I am an adult med-surg nurse at Upstate. We actually do have a Pediatric Emergency Department on our fourth floor. We have a children's surgery center. We also have a children's walk in at our community campus. From what I hear, our Peds nurses love their jobs. Our hospital, as a whole, is working towards magnet status. As a nurse in the med-surg float pool, I truly love my job. Even when it's hard! You won't regret joining us. Please apply. I should add the the Golisano Children's Hosptial is a part of SUNY Upstate Medical University hospital. It is located in the East Tower and it is colorful and beautiful. I often work in the older section of the hospital and there is a huge difference. I am used to working in the older section and I rather prefer it because I am used to it. The Peds ED is newly renovated and it is technically in the older part of the hospital but they did a great job of making is adorable and child friend with colorful computers on wheels and cartoon characters on the walls. I have had interactions with the nurse manager for the Peds ed and I think she is great. I hear wonderful things about her. (join us!) :) Button

Phlebotomy class for new RN?
I worked in long-term care for approximately 2-3 months before I started working in a hospital. I did not do a phlebotomy class to get the experience. I have only been in the hospital on a very busy med-surg unit for approximately 4 months but I am coming off of orientation soon and I am getting more and more comfortable with IVs and blood draws. At my facility, if you do not have med-surg experience in a hospital you go through 16 weeks of training. I feel prepared enough to do blood draws and IVs on my own. I am still awkward but I can do it and I don't show my patients how nervous I am. If you will not be entering a job where you will be doing blood draws and IVs for a long time then I think it may be worth your while to take a class. Having the experience I had in long-term care before I landed the job on a med-surg unit was incredibly helpful. I am awkward and I have so much to learn but that is okay and normal. Best of luck to you! :)

Autumn, I believe that your test anxiety is your worst enemy. I did did not want test anxiety to get in my way so I used a few strategies. 1.) Hands off the mouse, hands on the table. Keep your hands off the mouse until you have read and fully understand what the question is asking you. 2.) Make yourself read the question twice before you even look at the answers. 3.) Go into the exam as though you are going to use the entire 6 hours of exam time. 4.) Do not panic when you hit 75 and questions still pop up. More than 75 questions doesn't mean you failed. It just means the computer needs more input is all. 5.) Take a break!!! If your heart is pounding and your tummy is hurting and you are shaking by all means stop and take a break. You have time!! 6.) Be confident. You have studied the material enough. This exam is not just about content it is about context and critical thinking. You can totally do it!! I believe in you!! Keep it up!! Don't give up!! :)

Took Exam Tuesday, results on hold until Monday
This whole thing would have been a lot easier to deal with if they told me about the hold business the 1st time I called. :-/

Dear Button, Periodically, NCSBN® will conduct investigation(s) into candidate results. The rationale for such investigations can be numerous. There is no specific timeframe for the completion of these investigations. Therefore, NCSBN is currently unable to honor your request for the status of your results. NCSBN appreciates your patience and understanding at this time.

Took Exam Tuesday, results on hold until Monday
So, my exam is on hold for review and no one can tell me how long. The board of nursing basically just told me my exam results are on hold for an undetermined amount of time.

Took Exam Tuesday, results on hold until Monday
Hello All, I took the NCLEX on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Today is Sunday, April 20, 2014. I live in New York state and we do have the 48 hours quick results option. Except I cannot use that option because my exam is on hold. My exam is on hold because one of the test administrators showed up significantly late. My exam was scheduled for 7:30 and she didn't show up until 8:35. It took me 2.5 hours to take the NCLEX. My test stopped at question 75. I was excited that it ended at 75. My odds are that I did well and passed. I say this because my ATI predictor said that I have a 87% chance of passing and I used some incredible test taking strategies while I was in there. I took my sweet time taking the exam. I took a lot of deep breaths. I made my self read the questions before I even looked at the answers. I kept my palms on the table. I did not keep one hand on the mouse because I learned from nursing school that holding onto the mouse makes me panic and select answers too quickly. I learned from all of the thousands of practice questions I did to stick to my gut. It is right more often than not. I answered questions confidently and in the best way that I could. I did not allow myself to answer questions if my stomach was hurting or if my heart was beating too fast. Anxiety messes with my brain so I didn't allow it. That is why it took me 2.5 hours to answer 75 questions. I figured I had 6 hours to take it so I will use all the time I needed. So anyways, I take the exam. I go work a 16 hours shift. I felt pretty good about it. I was looking forward to getting my results Thursday morning. I try the Pearson "trick" it says my results are on hold. Not exactly the "good pop-up" that people talk about. Thursday comes and I still cannot access the quick results. I call Pearson, they tell me that "48 business hours" does not count my testing day. I can get my results on Friday. Now, I knew something was up and the rep didn't want to look into it because here on all Nurses everyone says 48 hours after their exam ended, they could get the quick results. Even on holidays and saturdays and sundays. Plus the pop-up when I tried to register says my results are "on hold." When Friday came and I couldn't access the quick results...I wasn't terribly surprised. I call Pearson and they tell me my exam was on hold because I "started the exam late." Making it sound as if I took the exam late on purpose. I asked the rep..."Let me make sure I understand you...because one of the proctor's was late to administer the exam late, my results are delayed??" And the rep at Pearson told me that I can get the results on Monday. So, it has been a very long week. I just want my results. I don't even care if I failed. I just can't deal with waiting anymore. I have been hard at work on becoming a nurse for 6 years. Working as a CNA at a nursing home with a horrible administration that seems to get worse by the day. I love taking care of people but as a CNA I am not paid enough and everything seems to be my fault!! I want to move on. I will move on either way. I just need my results so I can figure out if I am filling out applications as a healthcare tech/CNA or as a brand new Nurse. Oh yeah...then I got the stomach bug last night. Yup. Worst week ever. Smh. Please tell me that I am not the only person who would be terribly upset about this scenario??? ~Button
